My power plans

Think I finally figured out what I'm gunna do with my car here. I plan on going with the nitrous kit from NX ill link it later I'm on my phone atm. I'm gunna run a 75 shot so what would you guys recomend for the kit? I know I need bottle valve pressure gauge, bottle warmer and arming switches. Would I need a purge kit or is that not allowed on most drags? I don't plan to drag it that often and my highest shot I'll go with is 100. Any info appreciated

spike_africa 12-02-2009 05:34 PM

My advice is as follows.

Replace the fuel filter with a new one. Just do it because its super cheap and you will know the filter isn't clogged and hurting flow. Swap the plugs out for NGK TR6 plugs (part #4177) they are one heat rang colder and copper and work great. Plus they are cheap. Gap them at .035-.040" for the plug gap. The kit will come with arming switches etc... that you need to make it work. Your only add ons that make a difference are a nitrous pressure gauge and a bottle heater. Those are pretty much a must for any kit to get the most out of it. I recommend checking out Compucar,ZEX,NOS,Nitrous works too for a good deal.

Heres the kit i plan on going with

http://www.nitrousexpress.com/produc...ls.php?id=1469

I wanna go with a 15lb bottle cause the nearest filler to me is 30min away. NX has this kit for around 450$ while ZEX has theirs for around 600 with a 10lb bottle. So far this kit seems to be the best becuase of diversity of sprayers. ON my first few runs ill probably go with 35 just to be safe, then go up to 50 and 75 so my engine can get used to it. Also is this a good bottle warmer, heard it was good to get one with a pressure gauge so the warmer shuts off at right time.

http://www.nitrousexpress.com/produc...ils.php?id=318

Also what kind of fuel filter would you recomend? Also whats up with window switches? Ive heard a bunch about em and they seem like a good idea its just that it seems like allot fo you guys have them fail or make more trouble for you.

r3dn3ck 12-03-2009 07:46 AM

I have a complete kit for sale. DynoTune Nitrous wet kit. 75-150 jets included. with or without bottle. No brackets. And I'll toss in an autometer RPM activated switch (you'll need a tach adapter for 99-04 cars). It's a single pill switch that you can use to keep the shot from coming on before 3k rpm. 250 shipped without the bottle. Add shipping cost for the bottle.

Deathdiesel 12-03-2009 08:03 AM

What size bottle? And 150 jets. Might be a bit big. Also what do you mean a tach switch for 99-04?

r3dn3ck 12-03-2009 09:44 AM

10lb bottle. it has jets for 75, 125 and 150. You pick the set you want to run.

99-04's need to steal a tach signal from somewhere since they don't use a traditional coil or spark plug wires. MSD and Autometer among others make a small box that you use to steal signal from your COP's and send that signal to RPM measuring devices like window switches and tach's.

spike_africa 12-03-2009 04:49 PM

Just replace the fuel filter with a new one from the parts store.

I would highly recommend getting a kit made for Ford EFI vehicles or you will be chasing down some fuel related parts to make them work. And if the nearest place is 30 mins, who cares thats what mine is and its not a big deal to cruise there and get her filled up. If it bothers you that much get another used 10# bottle.

As for the heater, fuck paying $250 for a heater. Ebay Compucar and get there heater its way cheaper and does the job well.

Your car is automatic isn't it? If so all you need to do is wait till your over 2,800rpms or 3krpms and turn the nitrous on. You can spray through the shifts since its an auto. No need for a window switch in an auto car.

Deathdiesel 12-03-2009 07:37 PM

K sweet. The kit im looking at is for Ford EFI i believe. And forget the window switch then?

SnTBakosFinest 12-03-2009 08:03 PM

No window switch..WOT switch is fine.. hell I ran mine from a pushbutton for quite some time..

15lb bottle is retarded big..how often do you plan on using nitrous? With a 75 shot I was able to get 4-5 1/4 mile races and have maybe 2lbs left over.

Also for a heater you can check out harrisspeedworks (google it if it doesn't come out correctly) they have a decent heater for fairly cheap too if I remember right..

And yes, fuel filter is a big one to change..I believe thats one of the reasons the piston in my stock motor broke..

Deathdiesel 12-03-2009 09:52 PM

The least amount of trips i gotta run to a different town the better it is on me D: And i rlly dunno how often because i havent even had the chance to see a car with nitrous. And what kind of fuel pump, just a new stock one?

Also took a look at harrisspeed and yeah WAAY better prices. This got everything needed?

http://www.harrisspeedworks.com/prod...&cat=18&page=1 And on top of that ill need a gauge still right? which is only like 40$

spike_africa 12-04-2009 03:58 AM

Your stock fuel pump can handle a 75shot no problem. You should get more then 4-5 runs on a 75shot though. more like 10 runs on a 10# bottle. That one kit you posted is not for a Ford EFI setup. If its an auto like I said no need for a window switch. If you have half a brain, I am pretty sure you can handle flipping a switch on over 3k rpms. If you can't handle doing that then maybe nitrous isn't for you.

Kyanbi 12-04-2009 10:03 AM

Lol Spike. But death, we expect some pictures of the install and finished product!!

Deathdiesel 12-04-2009 10:37 AM

My bad I thought that kit was for EFI ill have to look again later tonight. Mind recomending a kit so I know what to look for?

I took a look around and seems like not many kits out there for 99-04. Checked Nitrous Works and they dont have any, along with NOS. ZEX has one for 680 below.

http://www.compperformancegroupstore...gory_Code=Ford

Compucar has this one but its for the 5.o, here it is.

http://www.compucarnitrous.com/index...kits&Itemid=66

Heres one that i glanced at fro harrisspeedworks.

http://www.harrisspeedworks.com/prod...&cat=91&page=1
^^ the above one seems really cheap considering, its 350 with tank, WOT, gauge, and etc.
If im missing any choices please leme know and ill take a look at em. Any of these good?

And spike the NX kit i first showed said it was a Ford EFI wet kit but heres where i got it from.

http://www.nitrousexpress.com/produc...ry=5,32,54,204

spike_africa 12-05-2009 08:18 AM

For a Compucar kit this is what you need.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/96-02...Q5fAccessories

For NX I would recommend either of these two kits. I would not bother with a 15lb bottle you just don't need it. Your nitrous refill station is not far away and a 15lb bottle is big. Also NX has a deal going on right now where you get a free 10lb bottle with the purchase of any of there kits with a 10lb or 15lb bottle. The Proton kits don't come with the fuel related hardware either to make them work.
http://www.nitrousexpress.com/produc...ils.php?id=906

NOS-

Nytrex-

Nitrous works-
http://www.jegs.com/i/Barry-Grant/13...oductId=754110

Now looking through here, most of these kits will need you to buy a Ford EFI fuel rail adapter to connect to the fuel rail to get fuel for the kit. Which can be had here for cheap. http://www.dynotunenitrous.com/store...?idproduct=246

r3dn3ck 12-05-2009 08:34 AM

my kit has all that shit ready to go.

Red, what specifically does your kit have? And where could i find smaller jets? Id like to run a 50ish shot my first time so i dont gotta worry about messing too bad up if i do something wrong. For 250 your kits lookin pretty sexy right now. D: Especially with that 800$ nytrex kit. How much would yours be with bottle?

spike_africa 12-05-2009 03:28 PM

I forgot about Reds post. Get that kit instead. It will serve your need just fine. I mean $250 for a complete kit shipped is a good deal. You can checkout their site at www.dynotunenitrous.com to get different jets. Just add the Jets you need and bottle brackets, because he says he doesn't have them and there ya go.

Here is a list of install instructions to go with his kit if he doesn't have them.
http://www.dynotunenitrous.com/store...structions.asp

Deathdiesel 12-05-2009 05:05 PM

K so i went and crunched all this up. For reds kit without bottle, switches, different bottle, gauge, heater, and purge, the end price is 730$. Not too shabby in comparison to NX with the kit as 645, heater, switches, and purge ending up at 965$. More money than i expected at the very first but still for that kind of power its unrivaled.

spike_africa 12-05-2009 06:22 PM

I'm not sure what your doing to come up with these numbers. $250 for his kit with a bottle not shipped. Plus a heater which you can get from Compucar for $70 here. Add in a nitrous pressure gauge, which is a must, and you can get that for $35 here. Add say what $40-50 for shipping his kit and your only at $405 for a nitrous kit. I'm assuming he has a relay and switch, and WOT switch with the fuel rail adaptor in his kit too.

Or just buy the Compucar kit and add a heater and fuel rail adapter and be done with it for cheap too.

Deathdiesel 12-05-2009 07:16 PM

120 for new bottle, 140 for switch to connect heater, arm, and purge.25 for a dynotune gauge.Purge and heater were 90 both I believe, ill check all these numbers again in a second.

spike_africa 12-05-2009 07:22 PM

He has a bottle for the kit. He just said $250 for it with the bottle, but not shipped. You don't need a $140 bottle heater. I mean if you really wanna pay that much for one and like it go for it. I just see no need to do so. Purge is not needed unless you want it for the cool factor.

Deathdiesel 12-05-2009 08:21 PM

I know purge is not nessecary but i do like it and if im gunna run on the track at all ill want it right?

Anyways i still need recomendations on a switch because none of the ones ive found suit my needs. Theres the one from AM but it is for coupe cup holders and mines different. Would like one with 3 switches, for arm, purge, and warmer. the bottle heater i found was 99$ from dynotune. Purge that i found was only 80$, again from dynotune. 250K+ 80P+99H+ 35S/H+switch??=atleast 465$

Heres the warmer
http://www.dynotunenitrous.com/store...p?idproduct=17
Purge
http://www.dynotunenitrous.com/store...s/prodView.asp
I have heard its better to use Metal purge lines but ill live without for a bit.

Also how much do fuel pumps run? Which one do i need?
I guess just gotta wait for red to get on to see how much he wants for the bottle and shipping with it.

SeanStang 12-05-2009 08:32 PM

Go with a used kit for sure, will shave a lot of cost off. You can find nice barely used kits with all sorts of goodies for cheap. I picked up my zex kit with all lines, remote opener, pressure and air/fuel gauges all for $360. The guy only ran one bottle through it too.

Look into Red's kit, he's got a killer deal.

Heres a good deal too:

every single thing you'll need except for the nitrous oxide. Jets, fuel solenoid, nitrous solenoid, 14' -4 hose, fuel and nitrous lines (from solenoid to nozzle), nozzle, jets, wiring, relay, connectors, RPM activated switch (you can use that as a trigger inline with the WOT switch), fittings, etc... It's a brand new kit that I never used and I'm including extras. Comes with the fuel rail adapter for the fuel tap. Goes under the FRPS.

spike_africa 12-06-2009 09:43 AM

You don't need to upgrade your fuel pump like I said before. You don't need a purge for the track either unless your a bracket racer and want the car to be as consistant as possible then yes you would want it. Otherwise its for looks mostly on the street. It will hit harder with a purge though.

I use a single small flip switch I got from radio shack that arms my entire system. I have the heater hooked up to this also, but it has a switch that allows me to turn it on/off when the system is armed. No need for $100 switch panel setups unless you want to spend money on that sort of thing.
