Anybody read the article in MMFF August pg 174 "A gateway to street supremacy". Looks like a good idea of adding a wastegate to a centrifugal blower.

yeah i read that article. they use the wastegate as a pressure regulator
I really dont understand all the technical stuff.\ thats whole issue of MMFF has so many forced induction article. would have to say the V-sick article was the best turbocharged v6 657 hp runs 9's |
I've been saying this could be done for years, and have been doubted time and time again - even by vortech engineers.
I did find a guy who did it on Corral a few years ago on a SN-95 cobra but also went blow through. I'm curious if they could just bleed the air back to the inlet of the blower after the MAF and remain draw through ? I had planned to do it once I get the 5.4 in. |

With the wastegate you can put on the smaller pulley lets say a 20psi but set wastegate for 15psi. I also like how the vortech boost comes on, but not how long it takes. I dont want my boost INSTANTLY, but I also don't want to wait 3,000 rpm for it. Being able to dial in the boost and where it comes on hard is key on a drag radial car. |
True and what I like is since full boost is not instant you will not have traction issues on a street car.

turbos need those BOV's (wastegates are technically on the hot side of the turbo) so they don't get the dreaded impeller reversion. Blowers don't "need" such things because they're mechanically driven. Turbos are driven by gas, which can be overpowered by built up boost in the pipe, especially as you dump the gas and hit the brake... that sort of thing blows up turbo's.
Blowers are physically linked to the crankshaft so they don't have the same capacity to see high output tube pressures at impeller speeds cause a reversion. Venom nailed the best use case for a BOV on a blower car. You make sure you don't overboost it but your boost comes on real low. I'll still take a twin screw first. |
