Supercharger- need advice

I am totally new to superchargers and need some advice....plus a few questions answered:

My car>1999 Mustang GT, 78,000 miles, basic mods: cold air intake, 70mm TB and matching plenum, Diablo Predator programmer, Magnaflow catted x pipe w/cat back system, blah, blah. Engine is in excellent running condition, doen't smoke or burn oil. Recently did a complete tune-up.

Ok, my questions:

1. I'm looking for some good power for a daily driver. my budget is also in the $3,500 range for a kit. I want the complete kit also. I'm thinking vortech or paxton 8psi kits. Are they similar in performance? I'm leaning toward Vortech. Good/bad?

2. The kits that I am looking at come complete w/injectors, fuel pump, and computer re-programming. I guess you send them your computer and they put in a new chip and send it back to you. Can I safely run my car with their tune? Also, could I ever use my Diablo Predator to chage wheel size parameters or even adjust their tune...or will his screw up their program?

3. Is 8psi the way to go for me? I'm not looking to blow my engine! Also, I dont go to the track....jsut want a faster street car.

4. Any tips on punching the oil return hole in the oil pan? I dont want to screw this up.

5. who has the best prices on the Vortech/Paxton kits. I just saw them at SummitRacing.com

I'll probably have more questions, but this is a good start. THANKS!

The kit I'm looking at is the Vortech 8psi V-1 S-trim. SummitRacing.com has it for $3,432.95 (part#: VOR-4FL218-010S). Is this a good kit, a good price? Will it be too loud, or should I get the SQ instead. I like some whine...but not obnoxious.

www.modularpowerhouse.com

The Vortech kit is a little more than your budget, but it is well worth it. Plus you get extras that do not come with the regular vortech kit. Most importantly you get a tune from one of the best modular tuners out there. Search on their forums for details on the Mongoose kit. I have the vortech mongoose kit and I absolutely love it.

hey BGBLKSTANG,

Is that the kit for approx $3,800? Do they provide any dyno #'s for this kit? Just curious of what I could expect with this on my 99 GT. Did you get the S or SQ trim? If you got the S, how loud is it?

I'd run a very good diagnostic test on your engine first. Make sure everything is sealed correctly. With that many miles, and forcing 8PSI into the engine, you don't want anything leaking or gaskets disintegrated.

I have heard both in person.

S-Trim = Freakin Loud
Sq-Trim = Loud.

When I buy my Mongoose kit I'm getting the Sq-Trim.

Expect 360 RWHP from the Modular Powerhouse Mongoose kit. EVERYthing that you need is included. Definately much better than buying one from Summit. Or you can check this out: :salook:

That is mine for sale, you would need a new bracket from Vortech. Not sure on the price of it.

id definately have to give one more vote for the mongoose kit...i'm waiting to get mine installed!!! it looks freakin awesome...and they are really good people who know their mustangs! can't go wrong

Sq is plenty loud enough. With only a prochamber and mac catback, I put down 343rwhp and 380rwtq on a superflow dyno and a hot humid day. Tim thinks the dyno reads a little low. So yeah, 350 to 360 should be about right.

stanger00 01-06-2007 06:24 AM

my SQ is pretty loud. MPH's tunes are second to none

Yeah MPH rocks. I use to kind of take it easy in mine, but here lately I've been beating the hell out of it and my car loves it.

if u only have 3500 bucks get a mongoose s trim kit and be done with it. id stil get it on a dyno to check a:f and timing but normally tim's mail tunes are ok with lower hp blower applications

Its crazy loud. I didnt even expect it to be this loud before I put it on. At idle its pretty obnoxious and if you dont like the whining sound then its not for you. Everyone that pulls up next to you at the light can hear the blower even with their windows up. I have to turn my car off at every fast food drive thru so the people can hear me. You can hear it a good 1/4 mile away coming down the road. The sound travels well. It sounds ridiculously awesome while cruising inside and especially outside the car. Sounds like a small jet under the hood. much louder than procharger but i love it.

oh and i got my kit done for about $2000 tuned and everything. ebay is good.
