Im buying a vortech v1 today and I know for sure ill want to install it as soon as I have all the parts! Can I run the car stock tune on stock MAF and injectors? Will it run fine as long as I dont get into boost? I just wanna hear the blower whine soo bad and ill be careful with it. It may be a couple of weeks before I can get scheduled for a dyno tune.

you are going to lean out your engine and very possibly blow it up. It is absolutly suggested that you NOT do that or youll be looking for a new 4.6 to put in your car. What do I know though, right? You just want to hear the blower whine...

if it comes with an FMU you can run it for a little bit like that, just done get into boost.

No it doesnt come with one. So how would the car run if I installed it like that? Would it have problems even at idle? I know itll run lean if I go past 3000 rpms but under that I dont see why it would hurt the motor if there is no boost? I can wait to put it on but I was just wondoring...

just don't do it. Wait till you have injectors and a tune. Since you're a 02+ car you can't adjust your MAF transfer function in hardware, it has to be done at the ECU so you can't use a "calibrated" maf. If you put big injectors on it it'll run like crap and won't idle. You can use a bigger MAF like a 90mm lightning unit but you don't need it... your motor can't handle enough boost to peg the stock maf. The stocker on 02+ is 80mm already and sufficient for your needs.

Just wait till you can get it on the dyno and tune it to the injectors. The V1 isn't the biggest dog in the park so you should be able to get away with 32-36lb/hr spitters.

Just a thought... I'm hoping you've pulled the nitrous kit cuz if you use the spray and the boost you're going to blow the motor in all likelihood.

as for your basic question of why not if there's no boost... simple. Have you ever had to suddenly floor it to keep from getting hit by some dufus? There's no way to be sure you'll stay out of boost.

I bought the blower today and it should be here within the next week. Should I even consider used injectors? Ill prolly buy new, but just an option...

No I havent pulled the nitrous off yet....I plan on selling it very soon but first I must take pics of the n20 plate and vortech combo......

I'd buy used injectors but i'd also run a little fuel system cleaner through the system if I did such a thing. Standard precautions apply... low miles as possible, they should LOOK clean, no obvious damage (this means zero) of any kind, and killer price. Honestly new spitters aren't that expensive so new isn't a terrible idea just out of good practice. If you're sticking to 8lbs of boost you should be able to get away with 32's or 36's, beyond that it's just fluff till you get to higher boost levels. Using the V1 and 8lbs I'm going to bet on around 330rwhp which would require 30lbs injectors but 32's will give you a little room for growth without being too big (I based this on results from Virtual Engine 2005 software results). 39's are just overkill till your hp levels are a good bit higher.

A guy is offering me 39lb 03/04 cobra injectors for $110....should I take them, or are those too big? Would it cause problems to have the 39's on there? I wanna be able to add power without changing injectors.

theyr good to go - provided you dont want to make even more power in the future

get the right injector for your power level. they're not shoes... growing into them isn't a good plan. Too much injector makes tuning a more difficult and driveability usually suffers. Besides... 110 bucks for used, just get new 32's and those will hold you till you get another 40-50hp.

BTW... 39's are big enough, and too big. 32 is plenty.

Do I need to have the car tuned after I put on a powerpipe? Is it ok put on a powerpipe after it has already been tuned? That will be my 1st mod.

Someone above said a 80mm MAF is suffficent for the most amount of boost on a stock 4.6... which isnt true.

Ed Clark dyno-tuned mine, he said the stock MAF on my car was pegged at 5,200 RPMS, and because of that, my A/F gets really lean past 5,200rpms.

You can add a Diablosport MaFia to it and it wont peg.

it shouldn't be able to peg is the point... at 8psi which is the limit of what I call safe for a stock bottom end you shouldn't even be approaching the limit of an 80mm tube. All the cars I've tuned with 80mm sensors and not one ever pegged even at 10psi but they did around 12. BTW... I think 10psi even intercooled is asking for trouble on a stock bottom end but that's my opinion.

Well I found out that the standard 2000-2004 Vortech 2 valve kits come with 38lb injectors. That comes directly from the parts list of the kit on the vortech website. I dont know why they use such large ones, but im glad I bought the 39's.....

v1 vs. v2 blowers would explain the difference.

The only difference between v1 and v2 is that the v2 has helical cut gears and the v1 has straight cut.....are you saying the v2 makes more power?

for some reason I'd thought v1 was less efficient thanks to the straight cut gears since I've always seen cars with v1's putting out less power at given boost than v2 cars but I guess that's only a coincidence.

The kit came in today! It has everything but a few long 8mm bolts and a filter..... I have a diablosport chip and 39lb injectors that should be here by the end of the week! Anyone know where to find bolts that are 8mm x 1.25 x 160 ?? Local hardware store said they were too long....
