2V turbo options

I read somewhere a post about hotsides only being available for the 2V if you want to do your own kit. Anyone know where I can get a 2V hotside from new or used? Or a link to the thread?

Thanks

Check out this website. its pretty good regarding all turbo kits for modular engines. They also have a very informative turbo bible for our cars.

MPH is coming out with a turbo kit.

Yes you can buy the hotside parts from Pro Turbo Systems. Just google that name and youll find their link. The hotside costs $1700

i dont know but im GETTIN A FUKN TURBO!!! - but between school and woman and her school and damn weddn ring I keep losing all my dough !!! - however I was looking into STS turbos and they have a kit that doesnt require turbo headers and the turbo is mounted at the rear of the car.. they say it will cost about 1/5 of a tenth in time (lagg) however the whole system with all the goodies is only 4000$ asking price - i am leaning this way

I wouldnt get that kit. Spend another 2k and get a lot better kit.

STS is a horrid adaptation of turbo power. The length of piping required for the hot and cold sides is stupid. Any turbo newb will be able to tell you that for proper performance from a given compressor you want it as close as possible to the nice hot exhaust gasses close to the head. Sticking it all the way in back means you have to pressurize 14ft of pipe before you can even contemplate seeing boost and you have to get your exhaust all the way to the back of the car before the turbo even sees it, at which time it has cooled and condensed and is no longer nearly as energetic. Don't forget 28ft of oil lines under your car just waiting to be abraded by some road debris.

grrr... sorry but I just can't stand to see people duped by clever marketing and to kick it off that sts crud wastes perfectly good turbo compressors on a retarded integration scheme just to trap lazy people into blowing 8K on a poor performing turbo. any kit is better than the sts **it

The more energy you can get from the exhaust manifold the better. The best way to get this is using stock headers and mount the turbo as close to them as possible. STS looks like crap. 30 ft oil lines mean your gonna need a bigger oil pan and upgraded oil pump.

why would you need a bigger pan and higher volume pump?

30 ft lines carry alot of oil. It could be a quart or more. That means you have one less quart of oil lubricating the engine. The stock pump cant even supply the turbos all the way back there. The STS kit comes with an external oil pump because of this. Who wants an external oil pump on their car? Just something else to fail. Solution is to add a larger capacity pan that holds 7 quarts, ditch the external pump, and put on a high volume....just mount them close to the engine and you wont need any oil upgrades.

spike_africa 08-27-2006 08:36 AM

you do realize all you do is add more oil to the engine when you add the turbos and you dont need the larger pan. I could see the longer lines being a problem with psi.

I would locally locate a separate oiling system just for the turbo if I were going to build a (laughs) remote turbo system akin to the STS junk. Running all that oil line under the car is insane. They should have gotten a small electric pressure accumulator and a little oil tank... maybe even a cooler and place the whole works on a mounting plate in the trunk. Then it's only 3ft away instead of 15.

A larger pan isn't so much needed but 150 bucks in braided line and some AN fittings would really be required before I would bless a system that pulls oil under the whole length of the car.

damn rear mounted turbo kits are way to ****ing heavy. extra 10000000 feet of tubing,
