Novi 2000

Ok so im thinkin about gettin one of these bad boys but im kinda supercharger illiterate. But hey.. thats why im here. :beerchug:

First off i got 54K miles on my cobra... now i keep hearing rumors that this is too many, and if i put one on now it will wreck my engine and all that crap

Second.. what the hell is the difference between the novi 1000 and 2000... I hope thats not a totally retarded question and maybe im missing something but idk? :helpsmili

Last... what else will i need after i get the complete kit?.. injectors? guages? ect?

Try to help me out quick cuz theres one for my car ending on ebay soon and its pretty cheap :punk:

the main difference is hp max(I believe) so certain parts may be different and it may be easier to achieve certain hp numbers with a certain one(novi2000 I imagine, there's a guy at MPH with novi2000 and 700 hp), As for necessities, I believe they come with injectors and MAF and everything you need.

However, one thing to note(don't quote me on this) is the type of S/c your cobra uses is it's own intake manifold(like the KB), so I THINK you'd hafta buy an intake manifold if you wanna use the novi2000. If you wre getting KB, you wouldnt.

He could stick with his with his current intake set-up. He has a 97 Cobra not an 03/04 with the roots style blower already attached. And Danny is current in the differences of the 2 blowers. The 2000 has a higher potential in boost and HP. And the only time they come with the injectors and everything is when you buy a complete kit like a Mongoose Kit. If it's worth the drive then you need to head down to Modular Power House in Georgia. They offer a complete kit with injectors, and all for $4,250. Then you need to figure in the install and tune.

www.modularpowerhouse.com
Call them up and talk to some of the guys down there, they will set you all straight.

you confused me by what you wrote. 4 valve motors have different intakes then 2 valves yes. a novi blower is a centrifugal style not roots like the kenne bells. anyways he has a 97 cobra not a 03-04 cobra. disregard what Danny said. as far as supercharger kits some come with everything you need to hook it up some dont or some say they do but you have to pay extra to get them added to the kit. so just keep looking around and keep researching and get what you think will best suit your needs.

he would be better off calling kauffman motorsports, JDM (in jersey), or johnny lighting performance (JLP) since they are relatively close to new jersey. i installed my vortech and took it to a dyno to get my air fuel checked. i have a mongoose kit BTW.

as far as mileage that is a bunch of crap from pansies that cant afford to buy a supercharger and make stuff up like "oh my motor has too many miles for me to put boost to it" fug them. DO IT. i put my charger on at 68k now my car has 80k.

I<3MySnAke 03-05-2006 07:19 AM

How much did installation cost for you guys. Now this would be the first time i would be getting something installed so im not to knowlegeable on prices for these things.

I would install it but now a days i just cant find the time and i really dont wanna mess this job up.

Stangdude27 03-05-2006 08:11 AM

Install was free. John did his by his self. I did mine over a weekend had to get 2 others to help me. If you get a S/C installed by a shop expect to pay close to 1000 to 2000 depending on if they throw a tune in for ya.

I put my S/C in @ 28000 miles. And have been running 13 psi since and no problems. With a Novi 2000 you will be fine. Get the Mongoose Kit from MPH and you should be good to go.

Installs are that complicated even retards like me can put a kit on. But if you have the money you get a shop to do the install and tune! Saves you alot of frustration and scraped knuckles.

stanger00 03-05-2006 08:27 AM

im john btw. i put the pump in 30 minutes. tapped the hole, plugs, injectors 2hrs. intercooler 1.5 hours dropped a wrench a few times between the cooler and radiator. charger took me about 6 hours because i had problems with the steeda pulleys coming off and i had to re clock the charger about 4 different times and the piping started to piss me off. pump and intercooler went on a tuesday drove to california and installed the rest on a saturday. its wasy there just a whole buch of parts that intimidate you.

r3dn3ck 03-05-2006 08:41 AM

keep the boost low on cobra motors.
novi 1000 will take longer to spool up boost than a 2000
you need the blower, fuel pump, injectors, brackets, belt, ECU reprogram/tune, piping, etc...

54000 isn't too much. Just use good judgement about banging on the boost needle.

95bstallion 03-05-2006 03:54 PM

Dont worry about the mileage that is nothing at all. I know guys with 3.8's that are boosting into the 100,000 area.

I<3MySnAke 03-05-2006 04:37 PM

i think im gunna go ahead and get it... as of right now I can get the complete novi 2000 kit off ebay brand new for $2500 from a private seller... just no injectors... so add 300-400 for injectors and 50 sumtin for shipping and thats still a pretty good deal :punk:

whitethunder46 03-05-2006 04:39 PM

I agree you would be ok with that many miles. Like mentioned, stay low on the boost. If you look at MPH's site, they list a blower install for 650 i believe. Anyways, the two shops around my area both charge 60-65 dollars an hour. Install of the blower and all the bits and pieces should be around 10 hours (non-intercooled and with gauges) Thats about 650 bux or so. Tuning is about 100 bux, but i would say it would be more since they should take more time on the car trying toget it perfect for you. All and all with proper care, tuning, install it shouldn't cost you more than 1000.

White04GT 03-05-2006 05:51 PM

I was thinking about putting a blower on, but my GT is a Auto and I want a 4 valve, and a 5 spd so in the summer I'm getting a Mach 1 once I'm done with school, but 54k miles isn't bad, and the novi 2000 seems to be a good blower MT#1 just bought 1.

WaterDR 03-05-2006 08:08 PM

I am installing a Novi-2000 just as soon as it arrives and the weather breaks. I am having it professionally installed by Dave Kauffman in Dillsburg, PA. I have the blower AND an intercooler with my set up. Dave charges $750 to install or $500 w/o the intercooler.

From what I can remember, the difference between the 1000 and 2000 is how much power it will support. The 2000 will support 1000 hp while the 1000 I believe is 750, but don't quote me.

I just did hahaha! Dave is the man get him Taco bell when you go for tuning.

I<3MySnAke 03-06-2006 02:50 PM

Alright like i sed im a little supercharger illiterate so i hope u dont laugh at my next question... is an intercooler necessary? not doubting that its a good thing to have but do i NEED it with the novi? Or will my engine just overheat and go boom?

3V2000GT 03-06-2006 06:07 PM

get it to be on the safe side, without it you wont be able to run as much boost as with it . or u could get it later when u have enough money

WaterDR 03-06-2006 07:28 PM

Perhaps not worth the money IMO if you are planning on just running 8 psi. Since I have the cooler, I may be able to safely make a few more hp then you, but neither of us can run much more then 400 rwhp safely anyway without forged internals.

So, if on a budget, you can always add the cooler later BUT, you will probably need another dyno tune which will only add another $300 and for me, another day off of work. Which when you are an old fart like me with a profession, saving the day is like getting a free blower.

Next year I may be looking at forged internal, headers, cams, and heads. That will easily put me in the 650 hp land w/o blinking and the Novi will be able to support me all the way there and then some.

The ONLY better option then a Novi-2000 for making power is twin turbos. I am not even sure a KB 2.2 can support as much power, but I could be wrong.

The 2.2 is rated up to 850 hp. the 1.7 is 650

dom 03-09-2006 04:50 PM

get a s trim if your on stock internals. no reason to spend more on something you cant utilize

i dont liek twin screws , turbos are cool but lotsa money.

r3dn3ck 03-09-2006 05:21 PM

why don't you like twin screws? They're more efficient than roots, boost at just off idle unlike a centrifugal and run cooler than a turbo.

I'd just pick a blower based on where I want the power and what my underhood area looks like.

if you get a cooler later and still run the same boost you will not need a retune. the only difference between a non intercooled and intercooled car is heat and your tune will pull timing as your car runs hotter thats why its important to have a IAT installed before your throttle body. there are tons of people running chargers without intercoolers and make good power when they start running intake temps of 180 and higher is when you have about 5 degrees of timing instead of 17. intercooler will keep your temps about 10-20 degrees above ambient temps depending on how hot it is. me example it was 35 degrees out and i was running on the freeway at 4500 5k off and on and when i checked out my datalog my intake temps never went above 43 degrees and my timing stayed at 14 im detuned due to the boost i have.

dont forget if you want to make 650 you will need the fuel power to get you there. 60#rs and cobra pump and 40 amp BAP with the proper wiring.

dom 03-10-2006 06:23 AM

roots are worse. honestly i took a ride in a 2.2. cobra and the initial blast of torque felt great but it didnt have that graduating pull like the centri's did.
