Thanks for the "Change" Obama

So now instead of being laid off a week here and there throughout the year due to lack of business and the economy, I'm being laid for 6 weeks total all in one shot. Last 2 weeks of December and all of January, I return back to work on February 4 I think. No telling what the rest of the year will bring but there is already talks of some down weeks in February too.

I tell you what, Obama sure is doing a good job bringing our economy back on it feet.

*End Sarcasm*

Moved to politics.

Well,BO said he would bring change didn't he.
Hope all who voted for him like it.

Mr. Zip 12-13-2009 08:09 AM

I just lol and turn off the tv any time he comes on now

But for real, it's not his job to fix the economy. America is
just used to the "give-me" attitude that we have now.
Barack Obama will fix the economy about as well as Bush
was able to keep Katrina from hitting the coast. The sooner
people realize that he isn't supposed to fix the economy,
the better off we'll be.

r3dn3ck 12-13-2009 08:16 AM

as soon as dickhead gave a trillion dollars to banks that should have and needed to fail for the economy to actually heal, he sold your job and mine down the river to china.

All who expect lies from a politician are delivered their expectations. Those naive enough to think that one wasn't lying just 1 time are always delivered dissatisfaction and busted hopes.

Hope-n-Change = I hope you can spare some change.

3.8LMustang 12-13-2009 01:52 PM

id say bring back bill clinton....

shad0ws 12-13-2009 02:02 PM

Honestly, as far I'm concerned. Middle class america needs to take a stand, I don't care if it requires a second Revolutionary War. We no longer have a voice in our government...

drag_racer33 12-13-2009 03:27 PM

+1 its people that make millions that make all of the decisions in our country and none of them give a rats ass about us

More specifically it's the companies making billions and their lobbyists that make all of the decisions in our country.

WNRacing 12-13-2009 06:12 PM

Is this where I get to say "I told you so?"

In all seriousness, no one should/could have expected him to "fix" the economy. Something that has been brewing for some 14 years or so will not be fixxed immediately. Unfortunately I don't think he knows the first way to fix the economy and honestly I don't know that he really wants to.

The last thing that this country needed was a liberal president. We need someone who will pull the reigns on all of this spending.. Stop trying to figure out why the grass is green or why the sky is blue. Spend the money on actually helping the people of this country and the small businesses that keep this place going.

drag_racer33 12-13-2009 06:56 PM

Excellent point, when any of us are in a bind we dont go take out a ton of loans to mod our cars, we work our way out of it... our government sets such a great example by doing exactly the opposite

08mustang_gt 12-13-2009 09:23 PM

I don't think Obama really has a chance though. Sure, the Democrats hold the majority of the houses, but they all oppose him.

Plus, the economy is in such a fucked up state that no matter who got into office they were just standing in front of a 200-pound cannon.

I don't believe that the Dems' will be in control much longer.. We'll have to see how the next round of elections go for them, I have a feeling they won't fare well.

krenogin 12-13-2009 10:13 PM

democrats have definetly lost it here.. they thought republicans was doing bad so they went dem, now its gonna flip around i think. I still wish mccain won.. but he had to get stupid sarah palin. Regardless, obama has done nothing but ruined where i live and how i live.. i know cleaner energy is needed but u cant stop coal all at once,, i see a phasing out of sorts, and maybe compensation for those like my dad with no education other than driving a truck a form of reitrement or relocation of jobs. BUT there are no jobs to relocate to!

we need to get william wallace on board lmao

r3dn3ck 12-14-2009 08:12 AM

I'm already here.

EDIT: Congratulations everyone on staying cool during the discussion. This brings up an interesting point... a bunch of hot-heads like us are all over the place politically but we've all managed to agree on one thing... this ain't workin. Well done guys. You as a representative slice of america have shown that even after you drink the kool-aid and make the vote you're willing to examine that decision and call it wrong if it looks like it was.

Sorry guys, I'm just shocked at the mellow in a political discussion.

The 2nd great schism in the US is coming. Prepare. (Don't miss my 10:00am looting class.)

This is not the 1800s and as long as we have a right to vote the idea of a revolution is stupid to put it bluntly.

We would be remembered as the first nation to start a war with itself because we were too stupid to use the right we already had to vote.

Only about 60% of americans vote and the number that actually understands what they are voting for is probably about 10 percent of that.

In America we are given freedom to do so many things and unfortunatly so many people are to lazy to take the time and learn what they are voting for.

Revolution is a poor substitute for education.

Forget political parties, what the media tells you, and the bullshit you hear from people whos minds were made up the miniute they saw an R or a D by the name.

If you take a little time and research a candidate you can figure out for yourself what they stand for and if you want them running your country.

No candidate is going to be perfect by at least you will know what to expect

God bless America :t:

Slim03GT 12-14-2009 08:56 AM

Maryland cut back on municipality work. Our emergency workers received 9-10 furlough days (based on income) from now till July with more expected to come after the first of the year. So even though police, ems, and paramedics are short handed.... were now getting 9-10 days off with no pay in attempts to get out of debt.

Edit : Just giving a heads up on whats going on around my area. You guys experiencing the same thing?

Neither was William Wallace's crusade. It was in the early 14th century. That's the early 1300's for the history deprived. Our own civil war of the mid 1800's notwithstanding, you're incorrect. Many many times throughout history leaders are put into power into systems of government by the governed (after all true political power derives from a mandate from the masses, to quote Monty Python) and eventually (seemingly every ~150years) that base of power becomes through human nature corrupt and ineffective. The unfortunate truth is that the only way to unseat a government with any effectiveness is to sorta get rid of all of them at once. Civil war, uprising, coup d'etat, call it what you will, it's the same thing. The sudden unseating of a base of power, and replacement with a new one that can't be trusted either.

That's a statement of blatant ignorance. Go read a book.

Ever hear about:
Afghan Civil War, 1992–2001, armed conflicts persist
Algerian Civil War, 1991–2002, conflicts persist
Angolan Civil War, 1974–1989, 1995–1997, 1998–2002
Burundi Civil War, 1988–1991, 1993–2005
Cambodia, 1978–1993, 1997–1998
Senegal, 1990–present
Chechen Wars, separatist conflicts against Russian federal government, 1994-6; 1999 - (now)
Colombian armed conflict, 1964–present
Congo Civil War, 1996–1997, 1998–2003
Ivory Coast Civil War, 1999–2000, 2002–present
Darfur Conflict, Sudan, 2003–present
East Timor/Indonesia, 1975–1999
ETA separatist insurgency against the Spanish government, 1968? to present
Georgian Civil War, Abkhazia, South Ossetia in Georgia, 1988–present
Guatemalan Civil War, 1960–1996
Guinea-Bissau Civil War, 1998–1999
Haiti Rebellion, 2004
Israeli-Palestinian conflict 1948-present
Islamic insurgency in the Philippines, 1969-present
Iraq Civil War, 2003(?)–present
Kashmir Conflict, 1989–present
Kurdistan, Kurdish Democratic Party, Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, 1961–1970, 1988–2003
Liberian Civil War, 1989–1996, 1999–2003
Nepalese Civil War, 1996–2006
Northern Irish civil war, 1969–1998 (Considered ongoing by extremist minority groups)
Palestinian Civil War, 2006–present
Rwandan Civil War, 1990–1994
Sierra Leone Civil War, 1991–2002
Somali Civil War, 1991–present
Sri Lankan Civil War, 1983–present
Sudanese Civil War, 1955–1972, 1983–2005
Tajikistan Civil War, 1992–1997
Ugandan Civil War, 1987–present
Yemen Civil War, 1979–1989, 1994, 2000s
Yugoslavian civil war, 1991–1995, Breakup — Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo (2nd NATO intervention), Preševo valley, Macedonia — Kosovo War 1996–1999

while not all of those countries had the right to vote to start with, they all at some point had to pick a leader. Even if it was thrust upon them, they had the human right to collectively deny that claimant the power of the office they declare or decree that they hold. See the Monty Python quote in the first response.

From the pulling statistics out of your ass department. It's lower. Big elections 54%, non-presidential elections 30-45% tops.

ahhh... you're back. Well, no. If you pick someone you've definitely made the wrong choice. My logic: No matter which choice you made. Anyone that can get elected is by virtue of how slimey a motherfucker they must have been to get elected, wholly unqualified to serve and should not ever be trusted to do so.

krazypony 12-14-2009 09:20 AM

yeah this year those that started prior to 2009 where made to take 5 days without pay as you mention above, and thankfully that didnt effect me since I was hired after that time frame. And that saved the company from doing any more layoffs during the year. And they mentioned in a corp. email recently that there would be no 2% increase accrossed the board for anyone... so basically as long as you are receiving a check consider that a bonus compared to some.

And Obama did say change would be coming...but he didnt claim what kind of change it would be, Hell when Bill Clinton was in office, at least the news was interesting to watch!

afterhours 12-14-2009 09:20 AM

who is really surprised? B/O had no experience, had never run anything....and we gave him the keys to the whitehouse.

the worst part of the Obama campaign is that it got people to the voting booth that don't vote, didn't know anything about him other than :

1. he was black
2. he was not GW Bush

so here we are. the Dems were in power since '06....but most are not smart enough to realize this.

Lazerred6 12-14-2009 09:34 AM

Voter turnout in 2008 was 64% and I was giving a high number and trying to prove a point that the turnout is very low thanks for making my point for me. what I meant by that was if you can't get people off their asses to vote how do you expect them to do anything else for themselves

Bottom line is we are a lazy nation

I should have specified with the war comment that we would be the first highly developed democracy to do it all the ones you posted are nothing like America and you know it whether or not you will admit it. The other thing you can see from the list is that most of those conflicts have no real positive outcome it's just people killing people. and while at times killing is nessesary it should be a last resort in my opinion.

I know that to get to a point in a political carrier where you can actually be considered for president you have blown so many dicks you have white goo coming out of your ears but that doesn't mean you shouldn't be aware of what dicks have been sucked and if the candidate has the spine to lead a country.

I am not saying that the situation is good or that people should do nothing but in I think revolution is extreme at this point.

However If they try to take your guns give them the bullets first

If they tell you to be quiet tell them that your guns will have somthing to say about that.

To OP:If job security is what your looking for, then maybe you should acquire a skill that not many can do. Get into a different business/trade all together.

I feel absolutely no effects from his presidency, besides the fact that personally I received 8,000 dollars for buying my first home. Which is awesome. With a 4.8% interest rate, by the way. Also, Banks are still giving out loans. I bought a $300,000 commercial property with 0 dollars down. Pretty sweet.

I do however believe, the worst is yet to come. We are only in the eye of the storm. I have no worries however. If your a true entrepreneur, you can make money in a bad market, and a good market.

My post is probably absolutely irrelevant to the other posts in this thread, but i didn't bother to read the Obama bashings.

JackThe Ripper 12-14-2009 02:30 PM

doesent matter who was voted in, nobody would be happy with the winner because everyone expects them to wave a magic wand and fix everything.

people should know better by now. Political victories rarely progress faster than a snails pace.

in the next few years we should be able to see weather or not obama was the right choice.

i for one, am part of the 40% of lazy americans who diddnt vote. Voting is a right and a privledge i enjoy when i feel i want to do so, but i dont feel obligated. I only saw 2 campains during that election, FOR Obama, and AGIANST obama. It would have been nice to see some "FOR McCain" campain.

McCain is a hero in my book, but i thought with his age the odds of him getting a stroke or heart attack and dying were far to great, the worst thing we could have been stick with is President Sarah Palin. If he would have chose a different running mate i would have likely voted for him.

The only reason obama was elected is because he was about as polar opposite of george bush as you could get, and bush was a massive disappointment.

the fact is this, shit happens, life continues, we find a way to get by or we die. blame game and what-ifs are nothing more than a complete waste of everyones time.

afterhours 12-14-2009 02:32 PM

200+ years ago the founders of this country built a government that was based on the concept of change...they had just lived thru a real revolution, and in a moment of genius built that same revolution into the system....

the idea of "armed revolution" is ridiculous.....

why?

because we can change our leadership ever 2 years, every four years and every 6 six years....

the problem is us. the majority of "US" are too lazy to get involved.
