Oh I didn't mean it like that. I was just curious. You can save alot of money and learn a whole lot from doing stuff like this on your own. But you are right it is your car, it's just that sometimes we need some help on some things. It's no big deal to me atleast. I just like doing my own work.

Few reasons. I'm only 17 so my expirience isn't that high. My friend who can do them with his eyes closed is serving the weekends in jail (wreckless and DUI) :bash: Long story short, I was going with a Procharger as well. Then my friend introduced me to Excessive Motorsport in Manassas, VA. She is best friends with the owner and convinced me to get a Vortech. They found that self contained head units leak oil badly. They deal for both Vortech and Procharger, so they weren't using that as an excuse. They gave me a deal because I was friends with their best friend. A deal I couldn't pass up at all. Installation and tune would then be less then the price of what you can get this supercharger off the internet for, so I couldn't pass it up. :punk:

I can't wait until everything is done. These guys really know what they are doing as well. I walk in there and they are tuning a twin turbo 00 cobra. Its always reassuraning to see older guys doing this stuff.

Keep the photos rolling though guys!

Looks great! How many psi are you running, and do you suggest I get Vortech's mini bypass valve?

stanger00 12-25-2005 03:42 PM

i got a 3.1 pulley and that is supposed to put me at 10#'s. if your running over 8#'s then its recommended. the stock bypass couldnt keep up and m car would surge and buck when i would cruise on the freeway, now i have no issues. im running both bypasses. i dont know too much about the aftercooler setup i have a paxton air/air cooler.

Well congrats:punk:

Oh and don't use your age as an excuse I got my car in 99 when I was in eighth grade. I'm only 19 now and am proud to say I have done a lot of the work to my car. Although I must admit when I do get my supercharger it will be the "biggest" mod I will have done to my car.

I have confidience that I can do the majority of the supercharger myself. Ie...pumps, injectors, mounting and connecting everything. The only thing that I hesitate on is the aftercooler. So why not if I'm getting a good deal just let the experts knock it out in 2 days and while its there tune it correctly and dyno it?

Yea, I mean if it was included and was a good deal why not you know. Still I'm amazed you're on-line talking about it and not their making sure everything is getting done correctly.

It really isn't hard to install it yourself, just have to take your time and pay attention to the instructions. It's great experience and the money you save by not having a shop do it will get you all the tools you need plus extra.

MachGT 12-25-2005 08:28 PM

the aftercooler is easier then the fuel pump too

Like I said I have complete confidince in these guys...they are about 40 years or older. I will go watch them do most of it though when they start, again my good friend is best friends with them, so it should work out great.

MachGT, I heard from so many other people that the aftercooler was SOMEWHAT difficult...I just think I would rather someone with expirence help me at least. And that one person is in jail right now... :censored:

Thanks for the pics!

Unless he's talking about a 00 cobra R which i doubt...

stanger00 12-26-2005 02:43 PM

well the 99-00 year gts have chrome headlights. so the 99 cobra must have those chrome headlights. thats why he probably said it was a 2000.

Regarding doing work yourself, I belong to the "I get as much satisfaction out of paying for someone to do the work as doing it myself" club, so don't feel bad. I have learned over the years that it is always cheaper to pay someone to do it the first rather then paying them to do it the second time.

With that said, I may end up installing one this winter. I may try myself only because I have all winter to do it. But even so, I still can't get it tuned on my own.

stanger00 12-26-2005 03:02 PM

took me a weekend to install all of my stuff. but he said its all in his package deal with maximum motorsports. i would let them do it too. "instead of being pissed that you reclocked the blower wrong three different times."

Blake, I agree with you. I mind as well just have someone I trust install the thing and tune it right there. No sense of using Vortech's "tune" to drive it down there. Besides, the installation and tune end up being even less than the supercharger itself if you just bought the Vortech...hehe... :punk:

Yes, thats right.

MattJ 12-26-2005 04:22 PM

My buddy is kinda looking to get rid of his vortec with aftercooler setup. its on his car and hes not advertising, but he would get rid of it. hmm...
i could probably scoop it up for a decent price and we'd swap the entire install. im not too fond of tapping my oil pan though, you know?

Do it! If you aren't comfortable with tapping into your own oil pan...

1) Buy a Canton or Moroso 7qt. oil pan.

2) Get your stock oil pan tapped into PROFESSIONALLY.

:beerchug:

madmatt 12-26-2005 07:24 PM

Matt, from what I understand, tapping the pan is no sweat.

pimpmustangGT 12-26-2005 11:06 PM

Well ove heard a hell pf alot of people saying that thye have proble,s woth vortechs - on that the pan plug is prone to leaking and that trash from the motor oil screws up the head unit... aside from this site I never seen anybody have a problem with the procharger leaking.. also its kind of a dumb notion anyway considering the plug is on top of the unit and its made of welded and forged aluminum...

it took me a while cuz the punches I used were a bit long so I didn't have room to swing the hammer. I had to turn it sideways cuz the fan was in the way.
