Subtle Updates
 

Now that I'm lusting after the new GT500, I've slowed my build rate on my 2002 GT vert. somewhat. Plans for the Kenne Bell are on hold, and the drivetrain build (4.10 gears, aluminum driveshaft, 8.8 gusset cover and Ram clutch) is delayed indefinitely.

So I'm having a little fun with the looks department.

Looking good,do you ever think about getting a light bar.

"Light" bar is unfortunately the opertive term. If they made them that looked like that and fulfilled the roll bar function, I might do it (although I can't give up the back seat - have a 3 person family, and my daughter goes there usually). Light bars are just that - light duty pieces intended for looks and to hold an additional brake light (they even make "non-functional light bars" - ie, light bars with no light).

Maybe I could come up with a custom-bent bar that fulfills both looks and functional requirements. With the GT500 looming on my horizon, I sort of doubt it.

The car has very little bling added. The front end pieces were necessary, given that the car was in a collision and I purchased it with the intention of modifying its looks to suit me from the beginning. Cervini makes excellent aftermarket parts, matching or exceeding oem quality of fit and finish. The hood is their Stalker ram air item (the hood scoops are functional, though all they do is permit the flow of cooling air to the motor - slight decrease in temps is only result I've seen). Front bumper is the matching Cervini Stalker design, required to match the hood and more aerodynamic than the original bumper, yet retains identical ground clearance and overall body length. It also allows for the use of functional PIAA driving lights, rather than the virtually non-functional oe GT fog lights. Having driven cars with both, I far prefer the driving lights over the wimpy fog lights.

I believe that the way most folks build their cars is backwards. Show, go, and just maybe some handling pieces - little or no attention to brakes. I start with the brakes and suspension, then add go, with show last on the list.

This car has Baer brakes, Hawk pads, Steeda G-Trac Stage 1, Steeda sub-frame connectors, Steeda C/C plates, Steeda strut tower brace, Steeda springs, 275/35 18's up front and 295/35 18's on deep dish polished Cobra Replicas, Steeda Tri-Ax shifter, Diablo Predator tune, Accufab 75mm throttle body, C&L intake, MAC CAI, Optima Red Top battery, 180 degree thermostat, Spec clutch, MT billet quadrant and adj. clutch cable with billet adjuster, Comp Cams, Bullit pads, Bassani X-pipe with cats, Mobil One in the crankcase and Red Line water wetter in the radiator, and a little custom paint and billet here and there (these last items are just for passing the time right now). Folks like the car - its been in 2 shows and has a First and Second so far. Its a daily driver.

She shows good - and drives better.

My Dad was in the 82nd Airborne - we lived in Spring Lake or on post, on and off, much of my life from age 2 - 12. Guess Fayetteville still has the old slave market (wonder if they still admit that's what it was) in the middle of down town...

GT would be my car, given enough money (just about $170,000 short), and a divorce. I'll wait for the GT500 Shelby - it will be all I'll need for a long time.

Is Pope Air Base on the base closing list - seem to recall seeing it there. I've got memories of making my first training jump out of there, back in 71.
