ok, so the very few might remember last weekend me getting my paint done and i took some closeups of the not so good flame job i got. i got tore up rather quickly and caved and took the pics down. so here is one with the new paint but not showing too much of the front. i didn't think it turned out horrific like some of ya'll thought but i wasn't super excited about the flame work. i thought "i guess it looks ok" and i got some pretty negative feed back. so when my work slows down and the weather is cooler, i am prob going to sand the front down and redo it. my question is this-go solid color(we have plenty enough left over to do the front end) or get his regular painter that he pays to do his and other peoples paint with some nice subtle ghost type flaming(which is what i was wanting when i was asked if i wanted flames), i have seen some of the work his guy does and it looks super nice and clean. i can get some pics of his truck next weekend if im working out there so you can get an idea of the difference in quality

We weren't trying to be hard on you, but instead we were just showing disappointment with your painter. But I personally am a firm believer in getting something done right the first time. I would've explained thoroughly to the painter exactly how I wanted it to look, and I would continue to reject his take on that until I got what I wanted. I like the ghosting flames idea though.

yeah, well it was my stepdad doing me a favor. i paid 300 dollars to paint the whole car. his guy was originally suppose to be up there to put the flames on after he put the base down but he was a no show. we told him we would be there late morning and we missed him cause we didn't get there till mid afternoon, so it was a last minute decision to let him do his first flame attempt on my car. I can get it redone later, i just don't have time to fool with it right now. when i stop working so many weekends i think it will get redone.

I say go for a solid color and keep it at that.. but its personal preference.

It doesn't look bad. I've never been a flame guy, but people do much worse to mustangs every day. Is the guy gonna redo it some time?

did you see the pics last weekend?

yea i can get it redone later i just don't have time to fool with it right now. i spent the whole week before i got it painted after work sanding down and prepping, then last weekend i worked all day saturday and went to salado for the rest of the weekend so we could paint it. so i spent a lot of time on it. my wife was getting tired of it.

here is two pics i snapped with my phone today. his truck was super dirty(not unusual) but the guy that did these flames was the guy i wanted to do mine

he's got the regular solid blue flames and them some ghosting inside the flames of skulls and other flames. i was just goint to go for the ghosting type, not the big solid ones

They still really look like stencil flames to me.. I don't know, maybe I'm being too picky because I've alway drawn flames free hand.... To me, they just don't have the natural flow like a flame should have, they look very planned and extremely uniform.

There are also some reeeeeaaaallllly bad tape lines and the outline is horribly deformed altogether.

I've got to be honest, I wouldn't let that guy touch my car with the intention of doing any "custom" work, that skull thing is goofy looking too, looks like some kind of a pumpkin, halloween thing with a giant nose.

Sorry man, but that is my 100% honest opinion. Don't mean to hurt your feelings at all, but that work is far less than professional.

PistonsFan102 06-14-2009 10:05 PM

I'm going to agree with WN. those tapes lines are far away from good.

krenogin 06-14-2009 10:29 PM

also, the color on the truck, the flames seem to have alot of "orange peel" i wonder how he laid those on there to cause that..

Teufelshunde3/5 06-14-2009 10:51 PM

I have to agree with the others. Those flames don't look that impressive. Stick with the solid color until you can find a profesional airbrush artist to do your ghost flames. (If the artist even sugests using a stencil, find someone else!)

I can't tell from the pic of your car, but if it has as much orange peel on it as that truck, you should color sand it and then polish it out.

i think you should go solid color, keep it simple and save the money for mods. i think you'll end up a lot happier

INtZ 06-15-2009 12:30 AM

flames are WAY over played imo

x04V6x 06-15-2009 12:34 AM

Yeah save for some wheels instead, wheels and springs and you will be 100 times happier than you would be with flames
