DVD/Nav head unit installed and LEDs
2 Attachment(s)
I just installed a Kenwood DDX-512 DVD/NAV unit. It's got a 6.1" screen, plays dvds, iPod, nav, satellite radio, and has a USB port. I had to customize things a bit since I had two single din slots. The unit is in place, but I have to wait until Monday to pick up the 01-04 dash bezel. I also installed blue LEDs in the gauge cluster. Did that a little while ago. They are a deeper blue in person.

where did you get them LED's from?
|
Noice!
Post up when things are done, please... |
LEDs were posted by Mixedbreed awhile ago. Just search through the pictures threads or find his name and search through his threads. He gives instructions on how to install them. It's super simple.
Thanks Caballo. I'll get finished pictures up Monday night or Tuesday. Ford is suppose to get the dash bezel in on Monday so I should be able to just pop it right on and be done. Went to a car audio place just to see what the install price would be and the guy wouldn't listen to me when I tried to explain that a double din would work in my car. He just said it wouldnt fit unless they built a custom fiberglass inclosure for $550 bucks. I want to go prove him wrong.haha |
sounds like you need to go to a different audio place. how much did that unit cost? i just put in a pinoneer cd player with the wrong hook up so my tweeters and back speaker just work with out any wass at all. i keep on forgetting to go back to the place to get the right wire harness. it works pissa thought. loadest(sp drunk ass hell right now) unit ive ever own before.

did u sand down the back of your gauges or did u just pop in the blue led's, ill be doing this soon since my new headunit has blue lights
|
The blue led gauges look sweet, too bad green is my fav. color and i like stock look! the unit looks great... def. post some pics when you get done...
|
the head unit was about $550. i didnt need to sand the back of the gauges. there wasnt any green gilm behind them which was odd. green leds are always a possibility.

You will figure it out once you install them. 3) You will need 5 bulbs for the gauge cluster and 2 for the ac. When you remove the bulbs from the ac, don't worry about the size difference, the new ones will fit fine. Oh and it is a little hard to see the red parts of the cluster, but it's no big deal. It's a little more puplish now then red because of the blue LEDs |
looks great! im thinking about maybe doing that.

I know this is an old thread if anyone can answer please do so...
I have read many write ups on this and some say theres green film, some say blue film, does anyone know what color film would come in a 2000 GT.... If i get white bulbs then the color will depend on film, if i get blue then i have to sand the film off, someone please chime in |

k, i was just making sure. im not gonna order those bulbs, i get mine from SuperBrightLeds, I was just panicing about what color.
|
Like stanger said, you shouldn't have to sand anything or remove any needles for that matter. The pics don't do the lights justice and I think they look way better than reverse glow gauges or anything like that.
|
Looks great!
|
my lights are in now i just need to pop them in and i should see what all the fuss is about, LOL. i had to study for a final that i have tomorrow so no time to get it done even though it will take less than 30 minutes to finish.
|
If I didn't have white faced gauges I would most likely try this. I am looking to get the super white backup lights from superbrightlefs.com I would like more light when trying to backup at night.
