Smile autox

well i went to my second autox race this weekend, and did pretty good. The scca club that hosts the events created a special catagory for us(my high school) since we are the only high school in the nation to have a school sponsored autox race team. I ended up beating everyone who came to the event on our autox team. my best time was a 40.1. Second place was a 2003 mustang Gt with a time of 40.9. and third place was a black honda civic with lowering springs and strut tower brace. he pulled a 42.1. so i was pretty happy. here are some pics from the day. (my mom took all these photos)

yeah it is awesome, but if any of us get a ticket we are out. and needless to say the administration for the school district and the high school are very on edge with this program.

Well...assuming the course wasn't THAT demanding on driver skill, I'm going to say he got walked by the rich kiddies in their BMW's.

actually, the only other car in my class to beat was a 1995~ mustang gt(had the 5.0 and the guy has been racing for over a year)which ran a best of 39.5 so i wasn't too far off. you don't race everyone since their are some truly insane cars their.it is broken down by car, engine mods/ suspenion mods/ and tires, so that i don't have to try and beat modded corvettes or anything like that. as for rich kiddies and their bmws' their weren't any. the best time of the day was a 35.6 set by a mazda miata which is in a modded class. a bmw m5(2002) only ran a best of 39.6. it really isn't a matter of how much hp but whether you can drive and if you have enough tire. which in my case i had alot of tire for as little power as i have. just an example is that a 03' mustang cobra terminator ran a 39.9, so you can see it isn't just power that is necessary.

umm, nothing really. a dual exhaust off the y-pipe, a MT cai, and rims with 315's out back(this is probably what helped me the most).

am I the only one that thinks the staggard setup of the 315's make our cars understeer more that they did with just the 245 tires all the way around? or is it just me imagining things after driving my 240 which make the mustang feel like a boat in the twistys?

240 dominates the mustang in handling. Maybe if you get a strut tower brase, some shocks and struts, and springs, you'll feel better in the Mustang.

alright, it has a lot of body roll but not near as much as my friend driving his del sol(that thing was just rolling around in every corner). the back end was actually very tame with the 315's(still would get a little loose, but nothing too bad, on one or two of the corners). i raced at another race with my stock tires and they sucked big *****, the back end would go around every corner when you tried to get on it. I am definately looking at doing some good suspenison work now, i was thinking maybe the bullitt handeling kit since i don't want a huge drop, and it gives me a rear sway bar, and a larger front one, so that ought to fix the body roll and keep me flat thru some of these corners then we will see how much more power she needs.

Sounds good, whenever I do sharp turns at a high speed the dashboard sounds like it's going to crack into pieces, lmao
