Idler pulley

Randy:

I may need to replace an idler pulley. I have a blower, and it is the one immediately underneath the blower pulley. I have a 2003 4.6 motor. The surface is worn and has a cupped appearance.

Can you help?

Randy Stinchcomb 11-30-2006 05:22 AM

maybe, is this pulley a factory Ford one or one that came in the blower kit?

foncarelli 11-30-2006 12:36 PM

I have replaced mine just about every year.

Randy, it should be a stock one. I don't believe any pullies came with the blower except the blower pulley. This si the one right beneath where the blower one is located.

Randy Stinchcomb 12-01-2006 05:24 AM

WaterDR 12-03-2006 01:41 PM

Cool Randy. I think I am going to replace the tensioner too. I have reason to believe it may have some issues. Can you give me a price on that?

WaterDR 12-03-2006 01:42 PM

Randy, can ther entire tensioner be replaced? Or, just the pully on it.

venom 12-03-2006 07:27 PM

My idler pully started to squeak at about 60k miles since the bearings were going bad.

Those P1SC's seems to wear them out. The entire drive system gets a beating. I have replaced power steering pumps, 2 altenators, 1 idler pulley, and 2 tensioners

Randy, how do I know if the tensioner is bad? How much of an effort is involved in replacing one?

easy to replace, chances are if the pulley is bad the tensioner is not far behind. how many miles? what is the condition of the belt?

WaterDR 12-05-2006 06:31 AM

The belt seems thin to me and is a bit beat-up on the outside edges. I don't have a new one to compare. BTW, with an otherwise stock 2003 motor and a Novi-2000, do you know what belt I am supposed to use? I can't read the numbers off the current belt.

I have a 2000 car with 67k on it. Last May, I swapped in a used 2003 motor that now has 12,000 miles on it (4,000 since theh swap). What I don't know is which pullies and tensioner was used. I guess I would assume that they came from the new motor, but I don't really know.

well the stock belt is a JK6-941 which is 6 rib and 94 1/8" and belts are normally good for 40 to 50k so it might be time for a new belt and tensioner

WaterDR 12-08-2006 12:56 AM

ok...stupid question: Do you use a stock belt with a Novi-2000?

stanger00 12-08-2006 01:41 AM

no

i got this from MPH.

mine came with a 3.4 blower pulley on my 2000 Novi kit but it also was a kit for the intercooler. Mine is 107 inch 6 rib Gates belt. $45.00.

take your belt in and compare it to a 107 inch, and go from there. Just make sure you flatten them out completely when comparing them.

you could call up paxton and ask them.

WaterDR 12-08-2006 03:20 PM

Shit, I don't know what the dam size of the pulley is. I too have an I/C and run 10 lbs of boost.
