Brand new

I am waiting over the next few months to get my first mustang. I remember my mother thinking it would be funny to get me a HotWheels '68 just for fun when I turned 16, and now all grown up over a decade later (come the time I get the car) it will finally happen. It wont be a 68 (I would before I die prefer a 65, 67 & 70 1/2 Mach I) but its still a tang. Most of the places around here have alot of coupes, I still want a GT. There is a place close that the household members have bought afew cars from already, so for the most part I just need to tell them what I want. I have been searching the web off/on tonight and found I seem to prefer the 99-00 model GT's. I have already picked out somethings (a body kit will come abit down the road probaly a Saleen or a Black Widow) for it, and Im pretty sure I want exterior outside and a dark charcol type for the inside along with crome (possible) but deff. want a carbon fiber shifter (yes Im a girl and want a manual), but Im not sure about everything else just yet.

If anyone has suggestions they are all welcome. I guess until my bday (woohoo not that far away) you all just have to picture it. :) I can.

Cheers

Welcome MT!!!
Why do you like the 99-00 GT more than 01-04. Cause I think the 04 is the best looking but it has to black.

tangurl 09-24-2005 08:48 PM

hehe

Alot of good things happened in that year. :)
Its not that I like them more, I still find the newer ones quite lovely, but its not something for me, I am really against anything thats straight lined and boxey, and its not bad boxey, its just too 'grown up' looking for me. Im all about fun. i could see me sporting an 05 like this come the time Im ready to settle down, but lets face it, my first and only speeding ticket tells another story. :)

01-04 are just as nice if not better (obvious) than the 99-00, but my budget does not allow for one at the time, so for me to push back to 99-00 (00 is iffy too pending what the local dealer comes up with). Just got a house, trying to fix it up, debating to knock out a wall and make a wall-thru room (all the fun stuff).
Mnn purdy

Otherwise, I agree it would be a 04.
And just about any tang looks good in black. People tell me Im so morbid (you know that house-redoing deal above? haha the kitchens going to be stainless steel and black) anyways, Im all about dark colors, not cause Im goth, but I like a sleek look and also I fell in love with a 99 tang out here, someone had put a R type kit on it (for some reason the dealer took it off, btw, differant dealer than the one I plan to go through for this car coming up), and he wanted about 13k for it, somehow he got the idea to take the front of the kit off b/c it drug on the ground, haha, I guess he didnt notice that the holes from the screwed on kit would keep looking bad since it was missing part of its new outside.

Sidenote, I dont like verts, I have issues with crazy drivers and fear that whole 'car will flip over I will get smushed deal'.

Badfish 09-24-2005 09:15 PM

Welcome to the site...I would say definetly get the Saleen or Cobra kit over the Black Widow, looks too ricey. My .02.

venom 09-24-2005 10:29 PM

Welcome and ditto on black widow.

tangurl 09-24-2005 11:26 PM

lol

The type R wasnt by choice, we drove around from being bored one Saturday and drove past a place and I went 'O a tang, lets go have some fun', we were about 90mph in 3rd, which I was then told 'this is too much car for a girl', I have barely been looking at kits for awhile so anyone with good suggestions like I said, I welcome them all.

I find most post' so far funny, since I ate some rice earlier this evening. :) I just dont really know what Im looking for just yet.

This will be my only second car in my life, that I didnt have to share with someone, and I will have complete control over what happens to it.

Im pretty sure if narrowed down to it, I would have to choose the Cobra over the Widow, all of these above are just what I have found tonight, and I didnt find this forum/site until well after I looked my eyeballs out for afew hours, so if you have better suggestions, let a gurl in on your secrets, know what Im saying ;)

And Spring, my tang cant be taken from me, had you read correctly, I have yet to purchase it, that comes during my bday month (and I think its a pretty sweet gift). :P

Mineral, thanks for the photo, cuz I really want to be compared to Bush :X Anyways, I understand the rice issue, just dont associate me with him again, thx. I will offical withdrawl the riceness of this thread. :)

Venom, thats a sexi car.

I know Im playing with the big boi's now, but just remember when you were young and starting out and new nothing about what you really wanted, besides a really sexi beast, thats all Im asking. :)

I have a long time to go before I get the toy to play with and figure out what I like and what I dont. I told the person getting me this for my bday that he can bury me in it once I am gone, Im that happy Im getting one. So I have alot of time to think about what I want and not rush in, to me, thats all that matters.

tangurl 09-25-2005 12:10 AM

After reading

just about everything on the forums, I decided this:

If either 99 or 00 GT model (coupe, not vert, must be manual)
I want a beefy car, it needs to purr like when you pet a good kitty ;)
It can be loud but not like it sounds like its dying loud, loud like its happy to be and ready to eat something or be all 'RAAAAAAAAAAWR'

This will be an ongoing project as I have plenty of years to take my time with.
When I want my *super* dream car, someones gotta will me alot of money lol
I want one that I can do the work myself (not afraid of hardwork btw) that people can go WOW thats a sexy and sweet beast & she put alot of time into it, but I also like the idea that a guy would be impressed with it, so when I step out I can explain what I did to it as well.

I dont want, something that looks like a cobra/etc/etc cuz if I wanted that, I would have actually gotten 'that car', which I hope makes sense, but I just dont like seeing the stock b/c it needs more 'RAWR' to it (I think)

Thats all I can think of, so again, suggestions welcome. Also, if someone can explain (complete explaination) of ricer (I get the jist) and sleeper, that would be awesome too. Cheers.

Badfish 09-25-2005 12:40 AM

ricer is pretty much what you would see on a civic. Big body kits, altezza tailights, rims that are too big for the car..etc

a sleeper is a car that looks stock, but is packing a serious punch under the hood, so if you roll up to somone at a stop light, they think "oh haha a stock mustang" then when you race you beat the crap out of them :)

and to show you, my car has cobra bumpers, check out the front in my sig

touching on that, his car isnt a sleeper, and def isnt a cobra, therefore he is a perfect example of rice.. jk jk! (nice kit, i havent had a chance to compliment u on it springsstang. now just either get a s/c or turbo, and and intercooler to fill in the bumper ;) )

as for u tangurl.. good luck finding the right car, it took me a little while to find mine. find out what u want, and dont settle for any less. the one thing id change, is that i wanted a convertable, and settled on a coupe. yeeeah. i regret that. so dont settle, at all! have fun, and good luck!

tangurl 09-25-2005 02:42 AM

haha

I dont need a vert, Im not having all that whole 'Im a man and need a vert to get hot chicks, I *am* a hot chick. :) lol

Serious, for the most part I got the rice deal, I lived in AZ awhile, I seen a civic or two in my time. For the part of choose wisely, I am pretty sure I will be able to attend the auctions with the dealer, so I will have mucho time in choosing wise. :) Sleeper I can deal with, thats probaly what I want, and I dont mind saving pennies and throwing into a fast happy lil tang, everyone wants good tang, right? :) But I dont plan to be speeding anymore. I got my first and only tkt this past year, in a hicktown Im not from and it wasnt even above the 'fun' stage......can you imagine getting pulled over and hearing 'So how fast you think you were going Missy in your, ummmm, Park Ave.', haha, I do. They like to give out points here, crazy monkies, so I will be doing the speed limit for quite sometime, but you know, when your testing in a new car...... :D

Okay, so that made sense, even as I just woke cuz my fiance fell down the steps (hes okay though), but its almost 6am, way too early for a fun girl like me to be awake, so Im going back to sleep, and its funny, I already dreamed it would be as you described (sleeper).

Also, Im having some issues finding Cobra kit links, anyone got some handy?
Cheers on your find ILove.......show us pix! And stang, on your pix, I have seen and its quite lovely, I would just not have a yellow car (was tortured as child going 'but but yellow looks good with your eyes'.......and I was a tomboy lol).

Badfish 09-25-2005 02:53 AM

thanks, there are no cobra "kits" youd have to buy the cobra bumpers, side skirts, etc from a ford dealer in most cases

tangurl 09-25-2005 02:54 AM

Know for sure

Nothing bulky, Rims probaly not much bigger than 16, 17 possible pushing it (btw another reason no vert, it rains alot here and I dont have a garage yet), I had to google altezza tailights lol but they look icky, the only thing I know for sure is I will have to get a racing clutch (preference from last tang I drove).
Thats all my sleepy mind can think up now, maybe when I learn to paint a picture better you can see my dream car as I do.

i love soccermoms 09-25-2005 02:57 AM

wtf? it had nothin to do w/ picking up chicks.. i could pick up chicks in my old 01' buick century. its called southern california, babe. theres the hot sun, and its nice to drive around under it w/ the top down and the wind blowing on you. then theres also that thing called the beach. again, its nice to drive up the coast/along the beach w/ the top down, sun shining, wind on ya. who said anything about getting girls?!?!?

on a side note, i dont need another girl.. my g/f now is amazing. (oh and just had a fairly large modeling agency call her to see if she'd model w/ them. just had to throw that out)

seriously with our mustangs, you wont want a spec clutch. our stangs have heavy clutches stock, and unless you have a power adder under the hood ( nitrous, turbo, supercharger) or just do alot of racing, you wont want an aftermarket clutch, or your left calf will be noticably bigger than your right

tangurl 09-25-2005 04:08 AM

hehe

I have given up on sleep now. I was poking fun at the big boys with big toys deal. I understand the wind in your hair deal, I will have you know, after much thought, I decided on a tang rather than a bike. :) If I wanted fast and hair blowing, I would be on a bike now, and not eyeball searching for anything tang related I can find (sometimes google is my friend even at 7am). And are you trying to make me jealous with that model deal? haha I will have you know........nevermind, I will keep this clean. Tell her congrats for me & make her model for you with the car, Im just content with still having a body after the birth of my son, I guess Im one of those 'milf' things or something that you men label....la la la la /end ego PS. calling a ladie thats older than you 'babe' is not appealing, just so you know. :D Aftermarket may have been what I was thinking, its been awhile since I drove this persons car, and I have a bad memory to start with.

 How do you know the right one isnt bigger now (I skate goofyfoot)...lol. HaHa, not much differant than when I used to skate, Im sure I could handle it, but just to be on the safe side (we have been talking pretty much non-stop since we went on test drivers yesterday) I want to test both an automatic and a manual, just to make sure. Speaking of which, anyone with pros/cons to auto/stick?

O pbfffttt, how much did that cost?

And is:
The Spider X9 Cobra kit will fit all Mustangs - GT, V6, Cobra, Conv.
True?

WaterDR 09-25-2005 05:24 AM

Welcome to the site! I have a few comments for you and most are not related - LOL

1 - Be warned, you have entered the "this site has 1600 members and 10 are chicks" zone. Post at your own risk! - LOL

2 - '99 - '00 GT's are the smartest car to buy. They are essentially the same as an 01 - '04, but less money. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Especially if you are talking about body kits and such.

3 - Clutches are a waste to replace, unless one of two things. 1, the existing clutch is bad, or 2, you are adding a power adder. Even if adding a power adder, it is sometimes best to just let the current one go bad.

4 - Mustangs should only be available in verts, IMO. But as a married guy for 12 years, I can tell you chicks hate verts. Seriously, unless it is 81 - 83 degress and driving less than 50 mph, if my wife is in the car, the top must be up. Drives me NUTS. But, Mustang verts are simply some of the nicest looking cars on the road, and there is nothing like cruising with the top down listening the the exhaust note.

5 - Most importantly, get what you want (and can afford) and make it what you wish. Your opinion on things will no doubt change over time. When I first got my car, I was intent on keeping it looking stock, but playing under the hood. Since then, I have modified the car in both ways and made it simply "me". When I go to shows, it is fun seeing the stang guys trying to guess what model and year my car is, because it is really hard to tell. I have a 2000, with a 2001 hood (actually it is a 2000 Spring Feature Car), a Roush body kit, and deep dish bullits. I also have custom badges on the car. Most people don't know what to think....that keeps them guessing and me smiling.

tangurl 09-25-2005 06:34 AM

lol MT

I have no issues with posts of anything that I have yet to reach, so I can reply now.

1 - I have no issues with being a chick into cars, if a guy here has issues, then he can talk his stuff, but its not like I really listen (girls can do that 'selective hearing' too you know, haha, actually being a massive computer geek and a tomboy Im far from worried, I didnt cry about the above when I posted 1st thoughts of the kits, but then again since I have that lack of sleep thing going on, I have found afew more to get feedback from (listed at bottom).

2 - Less $ is good, the 99 and 00 both have (year wise) reminders for me, all good. Also less money = more new car toys (also helps w/that whole new house, working on a family deal too).

3 - Clutch is one of the hardest things I am debating, Im quite used to driving a stick, but honestly, I dont know if its all worth it, I nicely got the lecture of 'well if you have one, then you need to replace...................., long damn list'), I just wondered if there were any major pros/cons besides personal preference.

4 - Its not so much chicks hate verts (ok, the preppy ones do, but coming from me, when I have had spiked hair hold up in 125mph on the back of a bike.........I might not be the best chick to talk). My reasoing is more for personal (Ive seen the damage to a flipped vert and lost a good friend in HS, I have a almost 4 year old son, etc). The only time I would want a vert is if the law allowed me to drive neked so I could bathe at the same time :) I highly doubt they will change the law just for me, even if Im getting my 1st mustang....lol.

5 - Price is somewhat an issue here, we have a great dealer who is mad willing to work with us, and has been 'thee' car dealer for over 5 years now with 3 vehicles under the belt, and for the past 1.5 yr hes listened to me go 'BUT BUT BUT I WANNA MUSTANG' I want feedback from you guys b/c you do (Im sure after afew years under the hood of your own cars) know abit more than me (not because Im a girl, just because Im more of a geek than a cargirl), I have acomplished few things with cars, but I can tell you, pushing a Nissian 4x4 truck 1/2 up a driveway to change a timing belt SUCKS. I want to get/adjust the car to me, its helpful to get feedback but I will always remember I am still driving it. As the fiance loves to note 'mustang seats are not comfy', however he doesnt take into thought that, A: I have partical scoliosis and also worse back issues b/c of a car wreck in early 03 (I wasnt driving, someone ran a redlight in PHX AZ, and BOOM). So I still think he might be right, but I dont care, I can always get another seat if need be, and he can walk. :)

The Roush body kits are nice, can I have yours? :) Show me some pix, I would love to see. If I am willing to go 'you can bury me in this', it will deff. turn into a 'me' car. :)

Found kits & looked through:
Spider X9 Cobra (I dont like the hood so much, it looks too big)
Spider X9 Bingage (spelling) and I dont know what would match with that for a hood, besides the stock.
Steeda I think the wing looks funny.

I looked at some rims too, but til I get the car, theres just looking.

tangurl 09-25-2005 07:00 AM

Question

From a reveiw I am reading:

The automatic transmission makes high performance controlled manuevers much more difficult so I would highly recommend getting the manual transmission if your looking for "balls out" fun.

So that means stickshift for fun, auto for 'responsible driving'?

Also, for those real tall people out there like me, any issues with a 99 or a 00??
While test driving some cars yesterday, I had to try a camero (to make the fiance happy) and I noticed I cant really fit into one. :( So I said ^%&^YY that, and went 'Im getting a Mustang' haha

Lances03SVT 09-25-2005 07:10 AM

Alot of it depends on what you like.Personally I love the manual but I don't mind an auto either.I like the control of your shifts you have with the manual and I think it sounds way better.
With the auto it reduces driver error alot, missed shifts, and you can just put it in drive and go.

tangurl 09-25-2005 07:25 AM

Hmmm

Well the living area is Greenville SC, it rains a good bit here, or its just damn humid. As for hilly areas/etc there are not too many, unless its a roadtrip kinda deal.

Im not too worried about the driver error, I know I know, Ima girl driving an american hotrod, but come on, I think I can manage a stick (its actually what I first started driving). Fiance says 'but what if you are talking on the phone, or drinking or smoking or something and want a free hand', hahahaha, he doesnt relize that I wont be on the phone or drinking (I noticed little cupholders, thats gonna need fixed) or (undecided) smoking in the car. ROFL I told him last night I was going to make him wear 'booties' so he doesnt track dirt inside it. :D

Im sure an auto would be better for road trips (I wouldnt go to AZ or anything for my son in a tang, but I might take it up to MD), so I can see that, but for me, with a father that was a trucker, its all in my blood.

Unless something really bad could happen (like I dont know, the area where I live would drasticaly affect it, I think I wanna manual.

And I so know what you mean about the sound, autos are like 'hmmmm' where are man's are HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM RAWRRRRRRR HMMMM

DrkBlu02GT 09-25-2005 07:44 AM

Welcome to the club..

tangurl 09-25-2005 08:01 AM

11am happiness

Nothing is better than when your future mother in law calls from London and goes 'Mustang was the best car I have ever had', he razzed on me b/c I attempted to fit into a Camera when we test drove (Im 6", hes not), but HAHA his mother agrees with me, nothing can be better today. Happy day too all. :)

tangurl 09-25-2005 08:25 AM

Random funny review of 00 Cobra

A couple of days ago I test drove a 2000 Mustang Cobra. That had to be one of the quickest acclerating cars I've ever drove the 319 HP engine teamed with a easly shifting 6 speed would make for fast and accurate track times, but be warned the day i drove it it was about 4:00 in the after noon and the roads were a little damp from and early morning rain. Like in all front engine rear wheel drive cars you expect a little "tail spin" but when i popped the clutch and put it half way to the floor the rear tires didn't hook up at all. I understand that could of been my fault so i continued on the test drive well with all the results back I wouldn't recomend this car to anyone with less than 5 years driving experence for the simple fact the cars to fast for a poorly set up suspension I can take turns better in my '99 zx2 than in this thing. This car would be great with a little more weight and a better TCS (traction control system). Now that I have drove bothe this and the Z28 this is a much better buy for a speed demon with some skill.

tangurl 09-25-2005 09:27 AM

I just got a better deal

I drive the car for one year and when I still love it, he buys the body kit (if I choose for one).....this is good, not only do I get my dream car, but I get a free kit too.

ponygrrl 09-25-2005 10:56 AM

welcome welcome. and good luck finding the right mustang. :)

tangurl 09-25-2005 12:43 PM

Thanx all for the welcomes, Im gonna see what else later tonight I can dig up.
I told him I would attempt to not get a speeding ticket the first time I drive it off the lot. :) Im happy to see afew other females around too, so I know Im not the only one. :o
