Default Testing Waters- 1999 Mustang GT for sale

Wow, never thought Id do this.

Thinking of getting rid of the Mustang. Its been fun, but Im thinking of getting out of it for something cheaper to drive daily.

Its a 1999 Mustang GT. 35th Anniversary, Limited Edition number 998 out of 4628. This car has been great for the last 3.5 years Ive owned it. It has 103k miles on it, has had the oil changed every 3k miles, and has been taken care of very well. The intake manifold was replaced by Ford due to it being the all plastic version that was prone to cracking. The heater core was replaced by my dad and I about 5k miles ago. The only mods are the following.

Mac catback with brand new Flowpath Mufflers
FRPP King Cobra clutch put in about 7k miles ago and a K&N air filter that was just re-oiled.
Steeda Sport springs
Mach 1 tockico shocks and struts
Maximum Motorsports Subframe connectors

The ac blows cold, and the only issue I can think of is that it has the hanging idle issue that most Mustangs have of this body style. The paint is in pretty good shape for a daily driven black car with 100k miles. There are a few small dents and dings, and the front bumper has some chips. The front tires were replaced about 5k miles ago and the rear tires will need to be replaced in the next few thousand miles. They have been on the car since I bought it 40k miles ago.

This car has been great to me, I hate to see it go, but it is a stepping stone to the next great thing. If you are interested, let me know.

Price is 8200.00 obo

Good luck Matt. Times do change and sometimes you have to move forward. For many of you young'ins, the stang that always seemed so important can suddenly pale to other things in life.

A car is just a car.

Car should be a quick sell.

It's called growing up.

My Mustang came after marriage, house, kid, kid, kid, boat.

Just think, a $400/month car payment is equivalent to about a $50k to $60k payment on a mortgage....a payment for an investment where most of it deductable.

Guys love cars, but you have to put them in persepctive.

Unfortunately im in the same boat.. I need something more dependable (not that my car isn't) but the gas mileage is killing me. I do alot of city driving, so Im lucky to get 200-225mi/ tank..

Im not saying that, that isn't good for a Mustang, but it isn't good for my pocket.

Want to hear something REALLY depressing?

Most people who change cars because of fuel economy end up making a bad financial decision anyway. A car you already own is a sunk cost and trying to restore that with fuel savings is a hard sell.

For sake of argument, let's say you sell your Mustang for $10k and it gets 20 mpg. You own it! You then get a new Prius for $25k and it gets 45 mpg. You would have to drive 121,000 miles just to break even.

For me, my stang is a third car and is paid off. If I don't want to pay for gas, I drive my Saab which I do most of the time anyway.

I figure it costs me about $1400 per year to drive it. That includes insurance and the ADDED cost of fuel over what it would cost be to drive the Saab. However, when I take the Mustang, my wife drives the Saab instead of her Suburban, so the actual number is less. I also have to add in maintence, and repairs....which also happen.

The other thing you have to factor is that is my car is worth say $15,000, the opportunity cost is 5 - 10% of that. In other words, if I were to sell it, I could put the money in my retirement fund and make 10%, then you have to add another $1500. You also have to add depresciation....which is not too bad on an 8 year old car. My true cost of ownership is probably about $5,000 per year. Which is REALLY high when you consider I drive it less then 8,000 miles a year (4k last year), have low insurance, and have no payment.

For some of you young chickens paying $450 month on a new car and another $300 for insurance per month are paying a HUGE amount of monery per year to own the car. I bet when you factor depreciation, it can cost over $15k per year for some of you.

BTW, I just realized that it costs me about $.75 +/- per mile to own my Mustang with all things considered.
