Hey guys. I need 2 more people for the GP in my 4.6/5.4 ad to happen. It's in fact open to everyone. V6 and pushrod V8 guys are welcome to jump in on the deal.
Post up with what you need: bore size year/make/model/engine size dish volume or flat top and I'll come back with what I can get you. The prices I'm getting are far below what you'll be able to find even on ebay and I'm not going to do this again, so now's your chance. I'll give you time if you need time but you must confirm that you're in asap or you risk losing out. Cmon' let me help you get the price you want for the stuff you need. If you have other internals you need, please post them up and I'll get you a price. I've shot a lot of business to my vendor so he's inclined to give us special pricing. |

Does your vendor sell complete stroker kits?

Yes. I know they carry 4.6-5.0 stroker kits. One particular package comes with a Hawks Racing 3.750 stroke nodular iron stroker crank, forged I-beams or H-beams and a set of Probe forged pistons. Rods come with ARP bolts. Rings are even included. The kit retails well under 1000. I can probably get a substantial discount below that if you do it as part of the GP.

I might be highly interested depending upon the price.

they retail at 900 with I beams, 125 more for H beams, so I'd figure probably at least 1-200 off that. If you're in, then you make guy #5 and we'll be locked in to the overall discount.
It would also be helpful if you had a target price in mind, then I can haggle toward that for you. Let me know if you have a number that you'd like to hit. |

Damnit this sucks, I can't decide whether to commit or not. It's not a lack of interest, it's a timing issue. But at the same time I realize that it's highly unlikely I'm gonna get an offer like this again. I haven't even done enough research to decide if a 5.0 stroker is even what I want, I had originally planned on a 5.8 stroker kit for a 5.4 block. :helpsmili
You seem to be an expert on this, what would you recommend? A 2v 5.0 or a 2v 5.8? When you stroke a motor, do you lower your redline or are there any other kinds of downsides?

I don't like stroking motors that suffer from head restriction already. The 5.4 is in fact nothing more than a giant stroker version of the 4.6 (with the block made bigger to handle the stroke). I'd narrow it down to a 5.0 or a 5.4. The 5.0 isn't known to gain you much mostly because of the head/cam/intake issues that are native to the 2V motors. More cam helps a lot. My attraction to the 5.4 is based on the pornographic amount of torque it makes which means I don't need to burn more HP worth of gas to get the same basic performance.
When you stroke a modular you increase stress on the sides of the piston bores which accelerates wear. Nothing big really, they're still good 150K mile motors but it does pick up the rate a tad. Redline is a function of your bottom end's stoutness and your valvetrain component selection. On stock or stage 1 internals I wouldn't go beyond 5500rpm on a 4.6, 5.0 or 5.4 or 5.8. With forged bottom ends using good components, 6500rpm is a neat place to be and really plays to the strength of the modular platform which loves RPM. I'd go plain 5.4 and not have to deal with the expensive addition of a crank. Or, if you have a special place in your heart for the stroker motor, then a 5.0 would be my choice since 5.8L motors can get more expensive to build thanks to parts not being the most common. 5.0L stroking is getting popular so parts are cheaper and more common. Whatever you choose, top shelf forged goodies are the only way to go. Keep in mind that many 5.0 kits for 4.6's leave you with the piston coming .003 out of the bore which is sub-optimal. I'd probably just do the 5.4 since the pistons are generic 4.6L slugs and the rods are sick cheap still on my last GP (yes that price is still good). 5.0 usually leads to having the piston pin intersect the oil ring which can cause oil consumption issues. Hope that helps. |

Thanks for the info, I guess built 5.4 is the way to go then.

cmon man you're the lynch pin. <pressure pressure pressure>. Seriously though, let me know. You'd make #5 which would lock the price in for us. we'll come up with a purchase date as soon as I have all the signups.

I just wanted to let you know I've decided against this, it's just not the right time ATM. Hope you're able to find a 5th guy.
