How many miles is too many?

I have 117,500 miles on my 98 GT Manual. Is it even worth it to modify the hell out if it and make it as fast and nice looking as possible? About how long do they last for? How many more miles do you think I could get out of her before she croaks. Just thought I'd ask before I go spending tons of cash. Thanks for the feedback!

What are your plans as far as mods? That is too many miles if you want to add forced induction but should be ok for all the usual bolt-ons. I would do a compression check and a leak down test to see how shes holding up.

thats fine mileage just add some subframe connectors, a rear a motor and a transmission and your good to go :)

Financially speaking, in some ways I think it is a lot smarter to mod an older, high-milage car then a new one especially if you did not pay much for it anyway.

Guy A buys a brand new 2006 GT, pay 28k for it and then dumps $10k in mods. Goes to sell it and gets 19k for it because mods usually kill the value of a car.

Guy B buys a high milage (like yours) car and pays $5000 for it, dumps $10k in mods and then sells it for $7000, just because the mods are worth more then the car.

So, who lost more money? Guy A.

modding a car isnt about resale. its about building a car you like.

Well I know that, because we are all dumb morons.

Do small bolt on mods first. Save up for a rebuild or new motor if you want to go deeper into modding. 4.6L's have been know to live past 200,000 miles. Just look at the Police cars and Taxi's.

my 97 gt has 174,000 miles, most highway drivin, and still runs like a charm.

my ex-freinds 96 GT had 136k miles when i addeda 100shot to it. he sold it to another guy who still this day sprays it.

Im planning on keeping my car for a LONG time. Im only 18, and my car has 45K miles on it right now. When I get older, and the car reaches around 150K miles or so... Im going to start thinking about dropping a new engine in.

I would say they begin to crunk over at about 150K. Especially if its highly modded.

it depends if you dont spray it or add forced induction it will last awhile. If you add nitrous etc... and something f's up then your day is done. Me i spray mine alot. As long as the motor is in good running shape its fine to add a power adder.
