i need some tips..

on saturday i am doing the tranny change. i have the haynes manual but it only says so much. should i take out the center counsol anything like that.

I can't think of any logical reason to remove the entire center console for that. You will need to remove the piece from right around the shifter though. You may want to find a Chilton manual for this. If you can't locate one for sale, a lot of public libraries have some for check out or you can just make copies of the sections you need.

Shouldnt have to great thing about this is........Drop the K-member.....take off the tranny and get the old seals off.....get the new seals and bolt the new tranny back on....its shouldnt be anymore difficult than another bolt on. There was one site that showed how to do it...I cant find the site but was able to do it with a friend without a problem.

Pretty much was Ice said. Can even take off the driveshaft to have more room. Went that route to take off my old clutch. Dropped the tranny out pretty easily, except for the damn bolt right behind the engine.

what the hell are you doing?

GREG@94GT 02-17-2006 09:54 AM

wow... yer gonna need help w/ a proect like this if you dont even know how to get the tranny out.... find a friend dad uncle some more knowledgable...

1. ya remove the shifter and anything else you need to get to it...(boots, etc)
2. put something under the tranny to support it weight
3. remove cross member
4. (you may need to remove exhaust)
5. romove starter
6. there should be a thin metal cover over the clutch cable... take that off
7. remove bolts that hold the bell housing and tranny together...
8 pull the tranny backwards (to rear of car) and then lower

the tranny in these are pretty dern light... you will want a little help from a car jack though...

oh... and have fun... he he he

GREG@94GT 02-17-2006 09:56 AM

****...

and you have an auto currently...

Take your car to someone who knows what their doing... this is a complicated job... (i assume yer goin to a stick, right) you are way out of your leage...

i am confident in my mechanical skills. all it is, is a remove and replace. i just dont any suprises along my way. like the top bolt for the starter i would of been pist if no one told me about that, and im under trying to pull it out and it doesnt go any where i would be pist. the top 2 bolts are a minor issue but i can do it. i just have to get it all done within 8 hours. thats when the hobby shop on base closes. after that i will have to get it trailered back home and finish up the job. i know it wont take that long since they have air tools.

you say im out of my league ha. just because i ask a simple question. nope im staying auto couldnt justify the cost and time it would take me to do a complete swap.

just put it back the way it came off and you still want someone there that has done a job like that incase ya run into an issue...

fuggin shop didnt have the tools i needed to get the damn thing out. got the h pipe off and drive shaft off no problem then the starter. i got a socket on it no proble but each time i turned it would slip off i gave up after a half hour of trying to work without any universal joints. put everything back together and going to a tranny shop to get it installed. shop is keeping the stocker and its only costing me 200. if i had a second car this wouldnt be a porblem for me to handle.

wat is wrong with you?

you can handle this...

as long as the car is high enuff, ya sit there for as long as it takes using different wrenches and sockets/ extensions and swivle joints...

just so ya know, it took me a good hour and a half just to get the starter out, and another hour on the tranny... then the bell housing came off really easy...

once ya get it all off it goes back together no prob...

stanger00 02-24-2006 04:03 PM

i know i can handle it but from the get go i was riddiled with problems and didnt want to a face a chance of getting bolts all fubard and i would be stuck with no transportation. ill take the 200 hit and move on.

only problem I had when I did mine was to get the starter off. All the rest was pretty standard.

Good luck!
