96 GT wanting to put h-pipes on.

Hi all just bought the car last week and had a couple questions. It has stock h-pipe on it with flowmasters and has a good deep sound and I'd like to keep that while making it a little louder. My question is will putting an O/R h-pipe on mess with the computer or throw codes? Is there anything else to it besides bolting it on? I guess it would be pointless to put a catted h-pipe on. Thanks all-

Yes, removing cats will result in showing up a "Service Engine Soon" light. It doesn't harm the car in one bit, but to prevent this I believe this is what the 02 sensor extensions??? are for. I'm sure others will chime in here any second to help out more.

I had this done with my preliminary cats. I had my tuner just make a tune where it basically tricks the computer in thinking there is cats. He turned them off for the left and right bank.

O2 extenders just lengthen the wires so they can reach the O2 sensors they will not make it not toss a code. You need MIL's these willl trick the ECU into thinking you still have working cats on the car. So get a set off ebay or from this site and that will cure the SES light. Or a Tune for your car will do it also.

Dont mean to hijack the thread. But what is the best tune for the money?

You FAT LARD!

Yeah you need mil eliminators they are like 50 bucks. Or you could get the diablosport tuner for 400 and turn off the rear sensors with that.

Whitethunder was telling him to get a tune. The guy is probably going to come back with the same question. So I asked it for him.

whitethunder46 02-03-2006 12:06 PM

No I was not saying to get a tune. If you already have a handheld tuner, such as SCT or Diablo then you dont need MIL's and can turn off the cats that way. This is what I did.

Okay. Moving on.

Well got the BBK h-pipe O/R and the BBK MIL eliminators on the way I cant wait to install these at the shop and listen to the new sound with the flowmasters.

Next question is on the tuners SCT xcalibrator is it just a plug in and it programs it? On the SCTX2 does that one have a plug in and automatic programmer is it all manual programming? Thanks all-

Well you get a mail order tune. So in this tune if you said you had no cats, the company would write a tune to turn off the cats. Then yes, you would just plug it in, upload, and would be good to go and the cats would be turned off.

Ok cool thanks. So the tuner automatically sets all the areas of the tuner? Im sorry I have no knowledge of this. :helpsmili :pepper:

whitethunder46 02-03-2006 07:26 PM

I believe so. You basically give them a whole bunch of info, from computer number, year and type, exhaust work, engine work, power adder, etc.

I had a dyno tune so in my mind this was the best for me.
