mmmmm nice

myillwillinc 03-31-2007 07:26 AM

funny how there are threads on almost every ford forum out there. i'm suprised there aren't more company's making products for the 5.4 swap.

r3dn3ck 03-31-2007 08:11 AM

very few have the foresight to see that this is early phase swapping and over the next few years there will be a tidal wave of 4.6 - 5.4 swaps. There are lots of reasons for the growth. Most of the guys that jumped on the wagon here just found out it was possible and decided to throw in their lot.

myillwillinc 03-31-2007 09:31 AM

i just had read the magazine article and had a nasty ticking on my pi swapped 4.6( moon ket snapped) well this guy here is a whiz with mustangs asked me to get him a laptop cheap( i'm a computer geek by day) and he would help me with my motor since i lived in a townhouse and didn't have a garage. a couple days later he said he had a 5.4 out of a 98 f150 with 30ishk miles, so i bugged dan for a set of adapters. the rest is like you guys, putting it all together and having a hell lotta fun driving it.

chip6990 03-31-2007 01:35 PM

my problem is i have wanted to do this for a long time, like 3-4 yrs. (before Dan Simmons article)

my only problem is $$$, and family priorities. plus i just might get laid off from my job. which might end to the selling of the car.

so anything i listed, you guys just make an offer and we will work something out

myillwillinc 03-31-2007 09:55 PM

well i got the motor/trans/driveshaft/shifter in today... YEAH!!!

r3dn3ck 04-01-2007 09:13 AM

VOID 04-02-2007 10:16 PM

Sooooo, any word yet on those plates lol?????

r3dn3ck 04-03-2007 10:01 AM

captain impatient. Yes... the word is: I just sent a prototype to a manufacturer to make the last couple changes to and start production. The prototypes should be there by the end of the week. It will take just days to set up casting molds if we go that route. Otherwise a CNC program will have to be created and then we can start full scale production.

If you guys are dead serious about buying them, please send me a PM to that effect. If I can tell the metal guys that I've got a guarantee of x many sets out of the gate then they'll be more kin to pull the hurry up lever and to keep the price down.

r3dn3ck 04-03-2007 10:46 AM

Cool. I was half teasing but the market research is really important. Trust me... they're definitely coming and definitely pretty quickly.

VOID 04-03-2007 12:25 PM

half teasing? what you mean?

r3dn3ck 04-03-2007 08:43 PM

the captain impatient remark... got to keep up mang. we're moving fast here.

VOID 04-03-2007 09:57 PM

o, i'm sorry. I though you ment you were teasing about the plates..... I'm glad its just that i'm impatient. I just want some 5.4 power "NOW" lol. thanks

Mitchell

myillwillinc 04-04-2007 12:03 AM

so can u give us some 'spy photos' of the plates?

myillwillinc 04-10-2007 04:37 PM

yea!!! back online....

VOID 04-10-2007 05:58 PM

Yea back online, i was begining to worry about it.

yea R3D give us some pics :)

bassman97 04-10-2007 06:20 PM

Yeah, what happened? The servers went down or something?

myillwillinc 04-10-2007 07:30 PM

somebody farted near the servers...

myillwillinc 04-10-2007 08:44 PM

heres a teaser pic...

VOID 04-11-2007 06:24 AM

lol you might want to tease the underside of that car with some cleaner :) lol its kinda oily. like that aluminum driveshaft though.

myillwillinc 04-11-2007 08:57 AM

yeah, i saw that while spending alot of time down there. i'm gonna scrub the underside this weekend. after that i'll start making extreme bracing for the tons of torque i'll have running thru the drivetrain soon...

VOID 04-11-2007 10:07 AM

I love to hear about TORQUE, i think i'm going to do a slow engine build and then get a junk honda or something to drive while i have it on the lift and then custom make a turbo kit :) :) :)

r3dn3ck 04-11-2007 03:41 PM

no spy photos. The "guy" and I just finalized the design changes yesterday. He's supposed to be going to the machine shop this week or next to cut out a set and get all the cnc programming done.

They're coming and they're going to be the best set to see the light of day yet.

myillwillinc 04-11-2007 04:25 PM

thats what i did. i have a $500 saturn that has a fender missing and a fart can muffler on it. i drive the hell out of it while doing the build.

VOID 04-11-2007 07:34 PM

fart can muffler lol that is ritch.

r3dn3ck 04-12-2007 09:44 AM

and yet it screams poor... things that make you go hmmmm.

scharged4point6 04-13-2007 01:06 AM

1. Can you use all the timing components from the 4.6 on the 5.4 (timing gears, chains, tensioners)
2. Number 1 might answer this one but Is it necessary to buy a 5.4 "donor" if im building a forged block and rotating assembly anyway?
3. I heard you can cut the 4.6 timing cover (where the vortech bracket goes) and weld it to the 5.4 timing cover but this was on a 5.4 DOHC app???

I have the V-1 S-trim w/aftercooler which i really want to put on the 5.4 I think it would be the cobra killer combo ive been looking for. (Kenne Bell low end without the kenne bell and the centri top end)

Thanks guys excellent thread!

bassman97 04-13-2007 07:59 AM

Sorry, timing components won't fit as a result of the taller deck height.
You don't need a donor 5.4 but having one usually will make the build cheaper since buying everything new can cost you.
You can do this but it's probably better to modify the bracket to fit w/o having to weld a piece of the timing cover on.
