I have an 8-rib 5.4 stock balancer on mine. most of my pulleys are 8-rib. Water pump and alternator are 6 rib. I use a stock length-ish 6 rib belt. Works great.

Ok guys, a few questions I need some of your expert help on.
I've finally decided my build will be n/a, est 400rwhp. (4V)
1. recommended upgrade to MAF FRPP 90 mm (M-12579-54) ??
2. Fuel Pump? Can I mod my 98' body style to use the GT Super car $97 fuel pump? Will that be enough? Or should i spend $200 on the Walbro(sp?) pump
3. will tuning require a computer chip as well? what kind? cost?

90mm lightning maf will be fine. Make sure it's the real deal. There's a lot of 80's reportedly floating around being sold as 90's. That'll piss off your tuner.
IIRC 98's were returnless. You might just be able to use the gt pump. You'll want to search around google for more on that.
I'd ditch the whole chip idea and get a handheld like an Xcal2. You can have custom tunes loaded on it just like a chip but the upshot is you don't have to pull your ECU out and apart to change the tune. Side benefit is if you need to back out some timing for a nitrous run you can do that at the track with the handheld. Chips are a bitch. Xcal2 or LiveWire or whatever is current from SCT would usually be the best choice.

the bad thing is that it shows the companys out there that the 5.4 swap isn't that popular and nobody will spend time developing products for this.

well, the few 5.4's with long tubes and hps intake will be the ones making more power then the others.
as for my headers: i have purchased a new mig/tig after the gun on mine has crapped out. so i will fix the hackedup parts and possibly make them flow close to r3d's nicer/better ones.

well, i would say there was a bigger showing for all these parts, but since they were pushed back (intake) for over a year... people just went other routes to get the parts... that was part of the reason i went 4v, is cause availability of parts... But you did good R3D, i just think alot of people have went other routes now do to it taking so long... and in a year, this may pick up...

I would have loved to throw down on the LT's but right now I am just financially ready for it with this semester starting and all. Wish I had the $$ to spend, but im flat broke.
Sorry R3D

R3D:
I saw back in 2005 you had some discussion about the fuel pumps in 98 GT's from the Aviator (what year)? Do I pull the pump and swap it and dump the new basket? If thats the case surely i can do that with the GT pump?

IIRC 98's went returnless. In any case you'll want to double check that point. I can't promise that the GT pumps will fit your stock lines or harness though so be prepared to put it back together.

I totally understand that and I sympathize... consider my gamble. Still, that being the case with most people as was feared, deposits were and would again be necessary before they'll be made. So we're in a catch 22. I guess we'll find out how it responds on my car and go from there. It's not a killed project yet necessarily since I'm still having them made for me so we can always get them made later in theory. Later on my willingness to be without my car for a month may be slightly less though and the people I worked with to get this far this time will probably balk next time.
The hell of it is, once we dyno my car we'll have dyno results for exactly 1 car with 1 combo which won't tell much of a story to anyone without something on par with it. So what will end up happening is I'll make some great numbers and people will then say, "yeah well that's just that one car and it has heads and cams and intake and raised compression... there's no comparing it so my <insert lesser or greater setup here>..." and we still don't end up with parts made.
They're being designed by a place that knows performance and builds hard core race cars. It's a privilege to even have them work on them. They'll make power commensurate with the engine they're on. They'll fit perfectly and look fabulous. And they'll be the only game in town if there's ever a 2nd set made.

what plates are you guys talking about? ... the intake manifold adapter plates? what size does it convert to and from?
I'm cutting cheap out on my project now. I asked for 10k from the bank to finish it up real quick......D-Nide. Since I just want it going up and quick and start swapping parts one month at a time.... need to get that 200k 4.6sohc out, she's on her last leg.

It adapts the 4.6 (PI) intake to a 5.4.
They both use the same heads (PI) 5.4 is just wider.

the heads for the 4.6 and 5.4 are the same, I understand the 5.4 is wider but could'nt you use the 4.6 long tubes?

I REALLY want to know the answer to that too! How hard would it be to put 4.6 4V longtubes in a 98, with the 5.4 4V?
also...
R3D: from a post back in 05 again...
"5.0/Super Fords did a 2 part article on this in Nov 2003 and Jan 2004. Very good detailed articles, in fact the bulk of what you need to know in the way of little details is in there"
do you know the name of this article so i can find it on their website? or have a link to it?

I get my intake next week or the week after if all goes right. Myillwillinc and I have been in contact with HPS and they're staring at 3 of the prototypes. The intake is made. Impatience is understandable but since someone went and did it for us I'd call it cool and give them some credit. There's a lot of money tied up in the 5.4 intakes and it's not a simple thing to do.
You'll never get any 4.6L longtube to fit without cutting and welding it till hell won't have it. It's not impossible but it'll cost around 3K to have a shop do it.
ibanez: Please PM me your email addy and I'll send you the articles.
Morgan: I'll hook you up on my plates and maybe even my HPS 4.6 intake on the cheap if it helps finsh you up since I'm getting a new 5.4L HPS intake. You'll get most of the benefits of the 5.4 intake that way. I have ported reichard plates too... mucho spendy. PM me if you want to work that deal since we can do that sooner rather than later.

BTW... I may be picking up a Roush MP90 supercharger later today to go with my Roush blower intake manifold for 4.6L.
So, I'll be selling a blower kit soon or adding 5lbs of boost to mine.

the wife gave me a present this morning... a brand new Momo suede steering wheel and hub adapter

That'll pull another 30lbs from the car with losing the airbags. Wooohoo.
