No Romeo engine ever had 8-bolt cranks and from 01-up, the Mustangs had Romeo engines.

LOL, i noticed that too, "But officer without my kids in the car I dont have anyone to remind me? j/k Hope you all like it, I freaking love it, the turbo is such a great compliment to the torque of the 5.4, it haZes M/T tires from idle at a dead stop punch and the just goes into absolute tire melt down when the boost comes on. If all goes well and no rain it will be on the 1/8th mile track friday night.

Awesome! Make sure to post up some time slips or videos. I bet that is a beast out there. My car gets it's first on track run next Friday, but on the road course. I will see how much better it comes off the corners with that added torque, can't wait!

Hey I have a 97 GT with a 03 GT engine in it. I did a full exhaust, intake,SCT tune,BBK255lph and a few other odds and ends. I am now planing on doing the 5.4 swap in my car. I read about 50 pages out of the 143 and I start to get a little confused.I knwo that the 2v is a direct drop in with the k member and wiring harness. When I do it it I would assume that it would be best for me to get a PI engine. I was planning on gettng some nice stage two cams when I do it too. Then all I would really need is the intake adapter.Would I be better using after market intake manifold or the stoc PI?I also read that my t-45(which is built) would also bolt right up? What kind of number could I expect to see with a nice dyno tune with a 2v 5.4 with cams and full exhaust..I have L/T's. I appriciate all of the information that you guys could give me.
Also on a side note I can get a lighting engine at really good deal. I know that I would have to get a cowl hood for it to fit, But is that swap similar to the 5.4?Thanks guys.....John |

Thanks man I gotta say your car and R3d's where the major factor in deciding to do this, I allready had the turbo so it was just a matter of putting it all together. I ran a 300 hp NA Cobra from a 55mph roll, it wasnt even close in a matter of a few seconds i was ahead by 10 car links, gotta love that turbo on the top end!

nope. 8-bolt fly wheel and some factory exhaust manifolds. nope. won't fit without some MAJOR modifications. the steering linkage is right in the way. r3d is currently working on getting someone who might make some l/t headers for this swap, but 4.6 headers will not just bolt right in. Quote:
i understand that 140+ pages is alot to read. but if you are thinking about a major mod such as this, i would recommend doing ALL the research you could and read all of this thread. after reading everything you will see that this mod is actually very simple and the gains that can be had are well worth it if done right. |

what are you guys using for a fuel system? i'm thinking getting an 03 cobra hat assembly with twin focus pumps and just dropping it in my GT tank? seems like it would be a lot easier and less expensive than doing a full return style set up like tommy or buying an 03 cobra tank?

Well pulling a Teksid motor that supposedly runs for $1t60. is not likely going to happen so opining I am back to considering a 5.4. I have a '99 Stang automatic with 4.10's, 3400rpm DD converter, UDP's, PYPES catted X-pipe(might sell this and go back to stock), SVO intake port matched to PI heads with the complete install kit. I added the coolant mod and drilled what appeared to be bosses meant for COP's, tapped them and have the COP's on the intake. DIY RAI/CAI and it is not imprressive.
So if I go 5.4 I would want an '97-/'01 or was that '99-'01? What compression does a flattop piston and my PI heads give? Anyone? I need to do something with this o sell the darn thing. Need to get it right the first time. I would like a pic of my engine posted here but use webtv and am computer iliterate. Could someone let me email you a pic to post here? If I go 5.4 I was considering sellin g the SVO, going to the stock PI intake, 70mm TB/plenum and changing the 4.10's for the 3.27's and building it for TORQUE. TMKD sells a piston and forged I-beam rod for $666.66. Pretty cheap for foeged components but weight is a concern as reving this motor past 5000rpm seems like asking a lot even though red says he shifts his at 6500rpm! Guys I need some help. Should I just get a short block from karkraft, $995. with flattops and use the rest from my 4.6? What all would I need? Front cover. My 4.6 PI heads will fit onto the 5.4 or doeos the 5.4 have larger intake ports in it's head for 2v's? Actually I would need the 5.4 heads or not? Brain drain going on here. Thought I saw a pic that showed the 5.4 2V woth larger ports, is that npossible or was i looking at a 5.4 4V pic? What this thread needs is a sticky of the combo's that are possible or actually have to do's. Man I could have sold that Teksid and gotten enough to but a 5.4 from karkraft though I have not given up. I did takie the driveshaft from the lincoln but it would need to be shortened and rebalanced but at $16. and change I didn't think I could go wrong with the yokes attached also! Could have an aluminum shaft for under $100. Part of me wants to buoild a 5.4 that would put out a fair amount of power, at least 325 whp as Hitech gets 300+whp on stock head, intake 4.6's with their stage 2 cams. Heck the 5.4 should get 35whp without too much as that Hitech 300+ is with a tune for 87 octane and 23* total timing. More compression and premium 93 octane and proper tune should get a 5.4 into the 325whp alone. I just don't want to build a 5.4 and find it doesn't for some odd reason. Mod 4.6 oil pan baffles and use 4.6 exhaust manifolds with adapter plates from Pro Products($200.) with good gaskets and silicone and that is it? Nail down the year 5.4 I should look for to do a rebuild on if I chose to go that route otherwise I would need that karkraft to be from what years? TMD has some light parts and droppingb 2 lbs from the rotating assembly should be cool and help getn that motor revving a lot quicker hey? THX, more questions to come, mark |
