I just got my K-member in for ease of swapping purposes. Things weighs just a little over 50lbs. Not bad. Granatelli. I'm going a little over board too to keep the front end in check with the built back end: I also got Front A-arms, coil overs, and am ordering a 15:1 Rack, bumpsteer kit, camber kit. Should be fairly wild with the suspension built correctly with that much torque. Anybody else build up their suspension first or just do the swap without?

You can find lightning lower intakes, spacer plates, intercoolers, compressors, upper plenums, and throttle bodies on ebay and craigslist pretty regularly for around 1000-3000. The installation is cake on a truck.
Okay, I was just wandering if it just bolted up or not. My dad and my bro both have Lightnings so when one of them upgrades blowers I could get it for extremely cheap.

I'm definitely getting tubular k-member and a-arms before I try to swap anything. It will make it a lot easier, plus make up for the extra weight of the engine.
Full Maximum Motorsports Max Grip kit, everything but a k-member so far. Have to use the stock k to try and make sure the new longtube headers fit cars with stock k-members.
You can't bolt up the blower without all the lightning lower intake bits but if you have everything but the blower it'll bolt up to those parts just fine. There's a guy out here selling a 5lb Allen kit for 1000 bucks on craigslist. If one of you wants it LMK and I'll help get it to you.

mkay... if this is more appropriate for PMs then so be it, but I had to sell my double OTT stang, and now have a 95 cvpi. It's got the 4.6 but it's non PI. I want a 5.4 PI engine to put in it. It's my DD, but still. I don't haul anyone in it and it's only my ride back and forth to work. But I live in a town that has a dragstrip and I need something... BECAUSE this is a friggin' Mustang town and with 2 kids and one on the way, I had to compromise. I'm doing it on the cheap, but I've got a good source for parts. Lemme know ANYTHING you got for the panther platform and I'm sorry for interrupting this AWESOME thread.
BTW I love scotch. 12 yo highland malt Scotch. That's not true. I love scotch, period.

There shouldn't be anything hard about putting it in the vic. There may be even more engine bay room, but I'm not sure. Most everything will bolt right up to the 5.4, so it should be the same as a swap into a mustang for the most part. The hardest work will probably be exhaust.
caballo... it's fairly simple still. A few people have put the full lightning package in the CV's. Just keep grabbin up parts and when you're ready do the swap. everything should bolt right up. You'll want to decide early between the assorted intake options.
And quit bein' sorry. It's a 5.4 swap thread, not just a 5.4 swap into mustangs.

moving along nicely. We're onto some B2B negotiations between 2 of the companies involved. The details of that negotiation will determine the details of the account.

Today was the maiden fire-up and voyage around the block. It fired up the first time after a couple cranks. I still have to work on the tune a bit to get it to idle better, but so far, so good. I rolled into the throttle some while out shaking it down and so far I'm impressed with the power. I will take it out for a little more of a drive tomorrow once I tweak the tune some.
Hey I was just wondering, why most people don't just buy the MMR block rated at 900HP for $2800. Wouldn't it just cost about the same when you pay a shop to put the motor together? Just my thoughts.

not always. Their 700 and 900 blocks are on either side of my build but I've got fully 300 bucks less in it including shipping than either option and I have a front cover, pulleys, tensioner, dipstick tube & dipstick, and the whole timing kit PLUS I also have ARP head and main studs. The 900 is indeed a good bargain with the manley rods and pistons but you still have to upgrade the fasteners and get all the other stuff if you're going to pop that much cash up front. A few of the guys have done their own assembly too.

Nice job JScottGT. Get some more vids after you get that thing running good. Do you have your own tuning software or what? And what mods do you have?
I use the TwEECer for the programming. I got the idle dialed in today but I still need to work on the low-throttle transient response. It still bucks and kicks when lugging at < 2k RPM. A lot of that is from the cam, but it should be able to be worked out. I plan to drive it a bunch throughout the week and weather permitting, will be running on the road course next Saturday at Gingerman.

I did my own buildup and was able to do the entire swap for about $1k total. Luckily the crank didnt need any machine work or it would have cost a couple hundred more. Even still doing this on the cheap is very doable if you have the mechanical ability.
