Steeda Intake Spacer

I was thinking about picking up Steeda's intake spacer but I was curious what exactly does it do? lol I have a N/A car and it says it should give me 2-3 rwhp increase. Anybody use one of these? Think it's worth the 70 bucks?

They work as advertised. However, if you plan on adding a plenum, don't bother as it is pointless with an after-market plenum.

Dont waste your money. Its more of a gimmick.

Most people get them for the sound anyway...ricey maybe? Just get a new plenum thats only 50 or 60 bucks more than the spacer.

csledd 02-03-2005 07:17 PM

Why won't it work with a plenum?

madmatt 02-03-2005 07:19 PM

Well it will, but it has no use. Most aftermarket plenums are already raised, so it would just raise it even more, and most companies have done tests like this, and didnt notice any gains.

gotcha, thanks for the help

madmatt 02-04-2005 12:41 PM

No problem.

They do work, but it's a small gain. I know a guy with a GT that ran low 12's high 11's without a power adder that used one and swore it dynoed at a 8 hp increase. If you buy an after market plenum they have tha raise built in to them. It basically lengthens the runners which will add a little grunt down low.
You can get a spacer and port the factory plenum with a Dremmel tool. I ported mine and did pick up 1 mph at the track.

well i had an extra 70 bucks to spend and i was undecided on whether or not to get stainless steel bumper letters.. so i went ahead and ordered the intake spacer. thanks again guys

I'm to late to sway you to save money and get the MT spacer but you should consider cleaning up the plenum while it's off. I put the MT spacer on mine, matched it to the plenum, removed the casting ridges and polished the inside of the plenum. It made a big enough difference to register on the butt dyno. By matching I mean I bolted the spacer to the plenum and removed material from the plenum and spacer in the high spots. I couldn't believe how nasty looking the casting was in the stock plenum.

wow.. I'll definately have to do that

csledd 02-05-2005 08:48 PM

since you guys have been so helpful already.. got any opinions for me on my exhaust setup? I know I want LT headers. I'm looking for high hp gains. Let's pretend money is not an issue and tell me what you guys think is the best performance exhaust setup. Also is the programmer route the best way to go?

edit: I also live in Kentucky, so I don't have to worry about passing any emission bs or anything.

madmatt 02-05-2005 09:15 PM

Well, exhaust , thats a hard question, because with money as no option, you can have something like Kooks headers, which are basically custom to your car, or you can save the money and put on some hookers. Thats prolly what I would do, as you dont have to remove the header to change the clutch. Also, do a search on the forums for info on longtubes, as they are discussed quite frequently. Good luck with your car man.

Hookers, SLP, Kooks are all good choices. Run long tubes with an off road X pipe and you will gain 15 to 25 hp depending on your set up. You will see a 1-2 tenth improvement in quarter mile times and 1-2 mph in trap speed. They will really help down the line if you upgrade intake and cams and port the heads.

I agree, you will see 2-3 rwhp, nothing you can feel, I couldn't justify 70 bucks for it, but you could probibly look around e-bay or other classifieds for one from 10-20, I bought a phenolic spacer from a friend for 15, that was fair.
