Upgrade Flywheel with Clutch?
I will soon be replacing my clutch, p/p, tob with a mcleod setup and I was unsure about what to do with the flywheel. I know it at least needs to be resurfaced, but I have heard that a replacement oe flywheel is actually cheaper that having the old one resurfaced (I don't know for sure on that but I did read that in a post on here).
Should I upgrade to an aluminum one or another aftermarket upgrade, resurface, or simply buy a new oe one? My mods are listed in my sig. I will soon be doing a PI swap, but I dont have a desire to go with boost or nitrous right now. The PI swap with bolt ons will be the extent for a while. Thanks for any help. Scott |
do it if your going to get a s/c or nitrous if not it won't help you

Probably couldnt hurt. A lighter weight flywheel reduces drag on the drivetrain, bringing your drivetrain loss numbers down, and your RWHP numbers up.
Find out how much your shop would charge for a resurfacing, and go from there. Just a suggestion, you might want to use the Ford factory TOB, as they tend to be better overall. |

if you drag race then I wouldn't go with the lightweight clutch. The extra rotating mass actually helps you when launching.
