Default Cold Air Kit

I have a Factory 04 GT and I was wondering if the Steeda Cold Air Kit was worth the $160 more than the Special Cold Air Kit?
Are these actaull steeda Parts?

Also I am looking to spend about $500 total on performance upgrades right now, I was thinking suspension springs and cold air would be the best two upgrades. Am I on the right track, this is my first mustang.

Just get a K&N filter, and pull the silencer. untill you add more upgrades it does little.

Good advice, I picked up a .10 and 1 full MPH from just a replacement K&N. Cold-air's are ridiculously overrated. Start with a filter, then get some 3.73 or 4.10's, then a shifter (5 speed). These three mods will wake up your car and make it alot more fun.
Springs are a good idea as these cars look AWD stock. However, looking back I wish I saved a little more and did springs, shocks, struts and caster camber plates all at the same time. These parts would be well over your $500 budget. I added the Eibach 2" Pro-Kit to a totally stock suspension. The look is just right, but the ride is rough.

Yea, like they said, skip the cold air for now, its basically a waste of money. Get some new gears put in. That will right about use all that 500 dollars to buy the gears, get them installed, and get the speedometer fixed, but it is SOOO worth it my good man. Then get a shifter and some exhaust stuff, just to make it growl.

I didnt notice the 500 buck limit. ok here is 3 things that i think should be covered by 500bucka nd with these you should run around 13.8@100

1-off road mid pipe(H-pipe is awsome, x-pipe is uh ok i guess....)=used 70-90bucks new 140ish
2-Drag radials-again you can find osme with good tread left if you search ebay or other sites. but for us we will use new. cost is 311 from tire.com direct to your house then about 20 to get mounted and balanced.
3-drop in K&N what are they 40 bucsk new now. or again you can find lots of used one s on ebay. the ones that fit v6 models of the 94 i belive through 04 also fit the GT modles that have modulat engines.

Total=$511
(using new prices)

There ya have it if you can drive like i said should be around 13.8 maybe 13.7 if your very good.

also all of these can be4 found on ebay for very cheap. just look and spend wisely, you would belive how far your money can go if you look around. I have a total of 540 bucks into my car and it runs 13.71@101

my mods are
-mac intake
-off road h-pipe
-mac catback
-Drag radials

And my car is a full heavy ***. Full leather and mach 1000 stereo,a nd my pass at 13.71 was with full everything in the car spare and al. so take osme crap out and i know its a 13.6 maybe 13.5 with a better track as my local track does not prep at all. maybe once a night at most. Good luck and i hope this helps you out.

Default Cold Air Kits

I purchased a K and N and removed silencer and didn't notice much difference over factory paper filter. About a month later I found a complete generic cold air intake kit that came with a blue reusable air filter similar to K and N that I purchased new on e-bay and installed. The kit I purchased was easy to install and looks and fits good and was only 35.00 dollars plus shipping. I didn't run any dyno or drag tests on any of the intake or air filters but seat of the pants feels the best with the generic kit I bought and the price of the kit doesnt cost much more than just buying a K and N filter alone

GTnumber2, why do you say no weld in mufflers. In my opinion, its not worth the 350 bucks to get a full cat back if you arent going to really seriously get into spending the dough on the car. There isnt much difference in the power, unless you get a supercharger. Just my 2 cents.

there is a bit but not till you push more than just a mid pipe and intake and pulleys etc.

Default weld in mufflers

I had 2 new flowmaster 40 series mufflers welded in for 175.00 including parts and labor. I'm very pleased with the sound and performance and the money I saved verses buying a complete cat back system. I plan on Installing a mid pipe with the money I saved.

The air filter will do the same, if not more, than the cold air intake.

the mandrel pipes make a difference in flow and looks. plus you are going from 2-1/4 to 2-1/2. also the tips are alot bigger and nicer then stock. performance wize maybe you will get 2 hp. i welded in flowsmaster ss and ripped them out 2 months later to get a full cat back that had a better sound , but i went with magnaflow ss system. then the mid pipe a few months later. plus if you get a mid pipe which is 2-1/2 it doesnt make sense to choke the exhaust back down to 2-1/4. and the money spent on welded mufflers can go to a cat back. now if you dont plan on getting any mid pipe or headers you might as well weld on mufflers b/c you will be keeping the same diameter pipe all the way through. im not knocking anyone who has mufflers welded in but im trying to help anyone who plans on getting a cat back sooner or later not spend twice on the same thing.

I would say go with full exhaust or gears. I have heard that when getting the gears, be careful on who you have install them and make sure that they are a reputable performance shop. Not "fly by night" like some are.
