Heres the deal. I have a 99' GT auto, and Im looking to put in a T3650 out of a 2003 GT in its place. Ive found the tranny and changeover kit, but Im not sure if all of the wiring and computer will work. How can I make a computer that fits a windsor computer fit a romeo transmission? Are the wiring harnesses the same? Who can flash my computer to do this?

Good question. I'm not sure if the dealer could just reflash your EEC or if you need to replace the whole unit. There will be some wiring differences between the two tranny's. Seems like you would most likely need to swap the whole thing out. Sounds like a p.i.t.a. too me. Sell the car and buy one with a manual. I'm lazy.

i belive the only difference when it comes to the romeo and windsor is in the engine,(and that is basically in realtion to the number of valve cover bolts and something else that's minor..) not in the trans.. of course your going to have differences going from an auto to 5spd.. There is only one 4r70w and there is only one T3650, so i doubt that they would make 2 different motors with 2 different computers... basically put, it don't matter what enging u have ( windsor or romeo) both will bolt up to either of the tranny's... the only real wiring your going to have to do is to swap out the auto harness for the manual harness along with the auto computer for the manual computer..don't quote me on this as i'm 95% sure of that!!

Sounds reasonable to me. I don't know if you can just have a Ford dealer re-flash the computer and swap out the tranny wiring harness or not.

With all the trouble people have had with 3650's,you might be better off getting the auto retuned with a shift kit.

only problem with thte 3650 is that they used chopper i think or waas it brass parts inside and when they were cold they would be weird and grind if driven hard, ford has a TSB out so its all good now. other than this small problem the 3650 is my favorite tranny yet that i have had. Althoough i loved my built AODE it ruled in my truck.

see funny hting is u have ever read i think it's 5.0 , that in there they have a project stang with a s/ced 4.6 and a stock 3650 and they claim no problems.. i have never really heard of anything bad about em..

My '02 with 16K has been in the garage once to have the second gear synchros replaced.. It would grind going into second gear when it was cold.. has been about a month and feels like it's starting to come back (might just be paranoid)

About how cold are we talking about here?

When it got below 45 degrees is when it stood out.. Once the car warmed up it would go away. My biggest concern is it would get worse as the miles went up and would need replaced once to warranty expired

You need to go get the TSB done for the tranny, like i said they all have iit go get the free tsb if your under warrenty and its all good. :blob1:

Go all out and get yourself a T-56 and then you could put in some 4.10's because you've got that other gear

4R70W is an awesome transmission that can be made to shift faster than any standard tranny out there......here's a great site that'll make you happy with your 4R70W : http://www.becontrols.com/

I'm on my 4th 3650. Yep 4th. First one failed within a week of buying the car, second one was broken out of the box, third one I destroyed on purpose just before the warranty expired.

They don't handle low fluid levels, high heat, shock loads, >400hp/tq very well.

I make 244/280 and I was able to destroy 3 of them with hard street driving. A shift kit on an auto or a t56 is always a better option. A really heavily built t5 can be a great trans, TKO's are great out of the box.

As soon as I find one, I'll probably swap out my 3650 for a road race geared TKO.
