Brake Bleeding
 

If I only upgrade the front brakes do I need to bleed all 4 calipers or just the fronts? I'm going with the 2001 bullitt calipers and rotors. I have the rears but I'm only going to do the fronts for now. Thanks for the info!!

You do not need to bleed the rears if your only disconnecting the front calipers. Just FYI..I wouldnt recommend speed bleeders if your doing it yourself.

You bleed the brakes when you do any service or upgrades on your brake system and you have to get all the air out of the brake lines by opening the little bleeder valves on the calipers. If you dont get the air out of the brake lines you will have no brakes or a very spongy feel on the brake pedal. It's called bleeding becuase when the brake fluid comes out it looks like oozing and spurting you know what. :icon_salu

You may also need to bleed the brakes at the master cylinder. Two winters ago I painted may calipers and when I installed them, I couldnt get any pressure in the system after bleeding all four corners a few times. I had to do the bleeders on the master cylinder to get my brakes to work again.

Use any chance you get to COMPLETELY change the brake fluid.If it's not 100% clear then it's drawn moisture from the air and is contaminated.You can loosen the drain valves and stick a 1/4 inch plastic hose on them and just let it drain out into a metal can.Keep the master cylinder full by adding fluid when it gets low.Remove as much old fluid from the master cylinder as you can with a turkey baster.

You should bleed all of them. Have a spray bottle of soapy watter standing by too, brake fluid eats paint.

You need to bleed all of your brakes. Starting from the furthest away caliper from the master cylinder working your way to the closest.

If you do not, I hope you are wearing your seat belt then.

When you bleed your brakes, you are assuring yourself and the brake system that there is no air in the lines to absorb any hydraulic pressure for optimal brake pedal pressure and braking performance.
