Ward's automotive magazine named the 2005 4.6 3v engine one of the top 10 best engines out of 36 cars tested. ford.com left out the details of what exact spot it got but that still is awesome.

I agree!!! The 4.6 is a great engine.Think about it,you can get a two valve,three valve,or four valve version,plus a factory supercharger.My first 4.6 was in a '93 Lincoln MK VIII.These cars were fantastic,130 mph from the factory,140+ with a chip(personal experience)and 31 mpg!!!I traded that car for my 04 GT.Ford has a winner with this one.

I'll have to reserve judgement til I can drive one, but based on the numbers so far, Im not finding the 3V 4.6 to be that impressive. I like the design and the idea, but I kinda hoped an extra intake valve and variable valve timing would add up to more than 300hp. I honestly wish Ford would have used the Mach 1/Maraduer 4V 4.6 in the new Stang. My vote for best new engine would have to go to the Chrysler 5.7 Hemi. I get to drive 300 C, and Magnum R/T's at work and they have major *****... I hate Chrysler but have to give them props !!!!

those hemis arent nothing like the old ones i would much rather have any mustang engine then one of those half hearted remakes.

Granted "they dont make 'em like they used to" :laughing1: , but 340hp/390 ft.lbs. N/A is mighty impressive to me.

If I remember correctly the 4.6 and 5.4L 2v engines were on that same list a few years ago.

I disagree totally with your comment about the new 4.6 3-valve. It's the first year for the new heads and ALREADY they are producing very respectable power from them. And I agree with you about the Hemi, I think it is a great engine in it's new configuration, with a lot of potential also. The thing about Hemis is that the design inherently, and almost effortlessly in comparison, produces torque in mass quantities. This is the "major *****" that you have experienced. And, don't forget, the most wicked Hemi ever produced wore a Ford badge, the 429. The only reason this engine didn't have any longevity in production is that NASCAR and NHRA killed it. It walked all over the Chrysler products! :naka:

Please dont pin me as a Mopar guy, Ive loved Mustangs since I can remember. I am still disappointed that the 05 Mustang doesnt have enough to hang with a stock 02 Z28. I wouldnt drive anything other than a Mustang, but I wish Ford would give us a affordable Mustang GT with 12 second power.

The three valve's are putting down 265 - 275 rwhp brand new. Engines will pick up additional power as they break in so these numbers will increase.
Last time I checked 265 to 275 rwhp was equal to 315 - 325 fwhp.
How in the hell can you not be impressed with those numbers from a 281 cu.in. motor. The car is underrated from the factory. I saw one run at the track and right off the showroom floor it ran 13.7's. I talked to the guy, it dyno'd 275 on the nose. This is a heavy car 3500 -3600 lbs. You put the 3v engine in my 02 and I will run mid 12's all day long. All those cars need is a set of DR's, 4.10's and a SCT tune and they will go 13 flat or better. Don't go by the track numbers you see now, wait a year and see what they will run.
Remember this is the GT, they have to leave room for the next gen Mach's and Bullitts.

Thats kinda my point, I dont think we should have to pay extra to get the performance of a base Z28 or T/A, especially since they havent made these cars for three years now.
Most of the 05's Ive seen have ranged from 240-260rwhp. It is still early in the cars life span and Im sure better numbers are still to come. Plus once aftermarket parts and tuning become more widely available Im sure these things will fly, Id just like to see Ford offer more in the base GT.
I cant wait to see the next Mach 1 or Bullitt car. I hope they can produce 350hp or more. And the next Cobra sounds like it'll be real special, but a GT is much closer to my price range.
It's not that I dont like the new car or the 3V motor, its just that a little more weight and a little more horsepower means the GT is still a mid 13 second car. In these days of AWD turbos and supercharged V-6, I dont think thats enough.

The 3-v is pretty impressive, look what kind of power they are producing with just a 6psi blower. I have seen some #'s well over 400 rwhp. Just think how long it took the aftermarket to get the 5.0 over that mark. I remember it took me heads, cam, headers, an intake, and a supercharger at 7lbs just to clear the 400hp mark. With the mod motors you can basicly just add a 9lb KB and surpass the 400rwhp mark.

ford is having problems with the 05 gt losing compression an imo even if i had the money to buy a new gt i would hold off until ford steps up to the plate and gets this new mustang were it should be.

I won't buy an '05 either, but not because I don't think the engine is not good enough. However, view my previous post. :sad11:
