gtech...how close?

okay i haven't been able to get to the track on test n tune nights so my friend said to borrow his Gtech.

ran it tonight and got a best run of 13.5@109 with a 2.3 60'

my mod list is in my sig. i'm not that familiar with mustang times vs mods yet. how close is that to what an actual run would be? i have no clue how accurate this little thing is.

I have been told that these things are painfully accurate if the road is completely flat and straight, otherwise you loose accuracy.

I have one and have used it at the track. It was off by a full second - LOL

With your mods, the time is possible, but the trap is unlikely. 109 is about 10 mph too high.

Just saw you live in FL. What elevation are you at? If you are near sea level, then the 13.5 is certanly possible, but the trap would still be high, though maybe it should be more like 103 or so max.

The other thing to keep in mind is the driver. If your 60 ft was really 2.3, with that car, then those times seem really too fast. I would be more inclined to believe those times if your 60 foot was say 1.8 or 1.9. That's the problem with those devices. There is some error and it affects things differently.

i used a gtech back in the day when i was a f-body guy :( on my z/28....and it was within a couple of tenths from my actual time.......i'm not sure exactly how consistent they are but i would guess you should run somewhere around that time at the track with your mods... with your 60' at 2.30 you can easily shave .30 off that on street tires with practice....that will help your e.t. a lot........

ponygrrl 09-25-2005 08:17 PM

well it didn't help the road was a little wet either. i should be getting my new wheels + tires with 10"ers in the back so that will help a lot.

zincougt 09-25-2005 08:19 PM

you can run that kind of mph if you spin like crazy.......i ran a 13.6 at almost 104 spinning thru first and part of second

WaterDR 09-25-2005 08:20 PM

Spinning a lot, tend to speed up your trap speed, but slow your trap time. Wierd relationship, but that's the way it works.

So, lets say you raced your stang and got:

60 foot - 2.3

1/4 - 14.3 @ 105

Then raced again, but had a better 60 foot:

60 foot - 1.9

1/4 - 13.7 @ 102

then it would make sense because my tires just did not want to stick to the road. i blame the rain ha. my other 60s were 2.4 and up to 2.6 (wow bad.)

WaterDR 09-25-2005 08:25 PM

I actually think these things are good for practicing 60 ft times especially the ones with trees. Provided you have a place to go.

ponygrrl 09-25-2005 08:29 PM

the roads around me are usually deserted. especially Central anytime after 9 or 10. there's noone on it because theres nothing around.

it doesn't have a tree, you just stop, press the button and launch when ready.

That's how mine works.
