headers, headers, headers

i've decided to get a set of longtubes before doing my dyno tune. I just have a quick few questions...i was planning on getting the slp long tubes, but realized that no set of headers is worth $750, ever. The only reason i was thinking about these headers is because i currently have an slp o/r xpipe, so i kind of wanted to stay away with mis-matching brands (if you get what im saying). Do you think i'd have any kind of problems going with another set of headers and going directly to my xpipe? (considering its modular and i wont need to buy a whole new xpipe ). If you think this shouldn't be a problem, what are some fairly cheap, but dyno proven and reliable longtubes out there? thanks guys

To be honest, its probably cheaper and easier to just stick with the SLP's. If you go bbk, they are 500 bucks, then a new midpipe unless you want to deal with bending or cutting the slp pipe to fit. Also, theres mac, but then you have the same problem with the midpipe. Id go with the SLP's man. They are worth the money.

if you have an off-road pipe and stock manifolds you are going to have to cut up the mid-pipe for long tubes anyway.

Many long tubes are matched to a specific x pipe. My Flowtech headers have a welded 3 bolt, 3 inch flange and the x pipe meets up to it and narrows down to 2.5 inch. I couldnt use any other x pipe unless I did either some cutting or welding. I'll get a pic in a few hours.

You will need a new mid pipe if you go with longtubes! You can have it cut and whatnot to fit your new headers, but I wouldn't bother with it, as it won't be worth the trouble! You will have leaks etc.....I'd just save up to buy a new one! :)

okay, thanks for the input guys....looks like ill just have to save up for the good ol' slp longtubes

Good choice. Youll save a lot of headaches that way.

I have the Flowtech LT's with the o/r x-pipe and they fit great and make really good power. I got the ceramic coated ones. They were fairly cheap, I think around 500.00 for everything. For the money you cant beat Flowtech. :)

ABSOLUTELY......I love the fit and finish of mine. The headers were a bit of a pain to install but totally worth it in the end!

Did you run into any problems on then install or afterwards 2000silvergt?

I wish I could get SLPs but those bastards didnt make long tubes for 4v 96-98 Cobras. Im going with Hookers. There is a reason why they cost more and buy them quick before they decide to raise their prices again.

i thought the SLP x-pipes came apart to fit their long tubes? at least thats what i've found incatalogs and internet

venom 09-06-2005 04:44 PM

Yes that is correct.

they do man...its called modular, meaning that the xpipe can fit your stock exhaust manifold but then when headers are put on they can be adjusted to fit them as well

I had no problems with install, just took some time (more than I thought). But well worth it. I also have no problems with them at all...no leaks or rust..
They were worth every penny...and they sound awesome too .... :)
