I have a 1996 laser red gt, its my baby but its an automatic... **** im not ashamed at all, but I am looking around to get her to shift a little firmer. I reserched the B&M kit that requires you to drill in ur valve body i think it was... but its not a freakin pro dragster... i would jsut like a firmer shift to get rid of the lag between 1st and 2nd... does anyone know about the B&M electronic shift kit?

I'm not familiar with that particular kit,but an add on chip will move your shift points higher and make them firmer.Look around, there are handheld tuners and piggyback chips.Don't just get a generic chip, get one that can be reburned by a tuner with a dyno for best results.

thanks man... im not to fimiliar with chips at all really... i have a buddy who is running a venom chip.. not on a mustang but he says he can tell a difference.. ive looked around at the Diablos... but I have heard alot of negativity.. the B&M kit is suposed to recalibrate your hydrolic system to increase shift power and its controled by an on off swith to run performance or stock.. sounds coola dn there is even an additive formula by B&M guys that foams to help your hydrolics that im using and it works! for anyone interested
but if anyone has used these products or knows anything about them pleae let me know |

I cant stress enough how bad it is to use these things, if you want firmer shifts use a shift kit like the transgo or the "jerry mod" i have used transgo in all my automic transmission equpied cars and truck and added coolers to them to and they all last a long time.
The electric shift improvers and chips with line pressure raised up will make the front pump work harder and wear it out faster. i dont recomend this to anyone at all.

I had a chip only in my MK VIII for 167,000 mi with no trouble (untill it flipped out,the chip, not the car) The transmission gave me no trouble at all, even with hard launches and full throttle shifts.Although I have heard of damage when an auto trans is held in first, second, and third to raise the shift points manually.

Thanks for all the imput guys... with im just kinda hesatant to drill... with installing the transgo kit or the B&N kit... does anyone know the cost of installation of the transgo or B&M kits? that was also an important factor ...
this new kit by B&M the electronic one.. also has the optional on off switch so you can run stock or performance... so that is good right? you can take it easy while normally driving.. then teach the little ricer something beside you |

Don't be afraid to use a drill. The proper bit comes with the kit(HA,a poet)and full instructions. The one thing I wonder about is,what if you get a chip and the tranny already has a shift kit installed?I guess you could tell the manufacturer and they could disable the transmission program?

The B&M electronic kits are junk. I could make you a similar product for about 2 bucks at radio shack. I had one on my old Chevy S10. What it does is when you turn it "on" it tricks your computer into thinking its at WOT all the time, and the vehicle shifts accordingly. At WOT it adds no performance at all, and your car will feel like it shifts normal. Its great for towing, but not performance. What I would do (and am doing) is the Jerry mod. Go to stangnet.com or modulardepot.com and search around for "Jerry Mod" and you'll get tons of info. This is basically a "do it yourself" shift kit utilizing a stock Ford valve body seperator designed by Jerry W, the man who designed the AOD and 4R70W for Ford. He knows his stuff. Print out the direcitons, buy the necessary parts and do it. I'd do a tranny cooler too while you're at it, nothing kills these things faster than heat.
