Pro-M cold air kit
 

I'm the proud owner of a mineral grey '01 GT 5-speed. The only mod I've made so far is a Pro-M mass air meter (I don't count the bullitt pedals). Next up: the Accufab T-body & plenum, then the Pro-M cold air kit. For those that might be interested in that kit, go to pro-flow.com and click on the cold air kits box on the left. This kit is similar to the MAC Straight Shot but the filter and meter are totally enclosed in a sleek plastic housing instead of being protected by a shield. Air is introduced through an opening that lines up with the existing fenderwell opening. This allows colder air without having to go through the fenderwell opening while keeping the hot engine compartment air out. And only one turn to the t-body. I think the price listed there was around $330, :eek: but I've found it for much less at a speed shop here in Phoenix.
I wonder if MT could get it to us for less?

Yes thats the only flaw I saw in it. Its retail price is like 400 bucks. BAH Looks pretty though, but that 300 bucks could buy my 3.73s...

I wish someone would do a study of all the CAI's on a dyno. So hard to find the data as it is spread out all over the place.

LOL we should make the guys that did all the plenum tests over at MD do that too. Thats the kind of test we really need. I still dont ever plan on spending that much on a cold air intake unless there is a turbo or a blower attached to the end of it.

i think they are all just about the same in hp. maybe 1-3 more or less from one another. i have the good old cheapy mac Cai fenderwel kit. i got it on sale at my local speed shop for 160 new. i couldnt pass up the deal and i think for 160 it was well worth it. even though i would rather of had something that was plastic and not metal but its all good.

Just be careful because Mac's old intakes are known to cause some problems in peoples cars with the a/f ratio due to the 90 degree bend. Ive heard some good things about their straight shot though.

Hey PhoenixGT where did you find that CAI cheap? Thats the CAI I wanted too. But I thought it was too much for something that probably wont add much but looks. But if its the right price I may purchase it. Thanks.

If you have the car tuned, you can correct this problem by rotating the MAF until it is reading correctly.

What I don't get is that the Mustang comes stock with a fenderwall CAI. Think about it.

Do you have a link of the results of that plenum dyno?

I know what you mean about CAI claims...You hear all these rumors...who do you believe?

Honestly I would not imagine that Steeda would inflate their numbers, but 10 hp increase is a little hard to swallow...

I don't know what to personally believe about CAI's. I do have one, so that certainly says that at one point, it made sense to me and they still do. I have always fealt that they were good for 5 - 10 hp on a near-stock GT.

Regarding numbers inflation: Companies are overly optimistic I think. When C&L first rolled out the pleum TB combo, they claimed 25 hp. Reality was more like 15. As you increase boost (say from adding a blower) the benefit of a CAI increases and I belive this si what is often times reflecdted on the high number.

Also, other mods might impact the power increases of a CAI. What is important is how all the mods work together and how your future plans might change. I am adding nitrous to my apllication, so a CAI should help more PLUS I need a metal intake pipe.
