header questions for 2001 mustang GT!?

Im looking to get Headers for my automatic 2001 ford mustang GT.. questions i have are which ones will fit!?!? Im not really worried rather their long tube or shorties, would rather have long tubes becuase their far more worth the trouble. I do have a Magnaflow exhaust kit on the car but everything else is stock. Does anyone know of any legal long tube headers and where can i get them. Also if i decide to get the BBK shorties, does anyone know if these will direct bolt onto a automatic transmission ( http://www.americanmuscle.com/bbk-sh...96-2004gt.html ) any advice or anything will help me alot as I am not that tech smart.

Thank you

the short tube headers give you almost zero gain over stock manifolds...save your money and go long tube and if i remember right MAC headers will fit

seriously, from experience: SAVE THE MONEY. Use it for a supercharger instead. Headers are a HUGE waste of money. You might gain 12-15hp with longtubes for the 1200 bucks it'll cost to have them installed and the re-tune done. Shorties are 100% completely worthless as a mod.

I spent the money, so many others did too. We learned our lesson. You may wanna take an example.

Agreed. Plus if you do long tubes, you better make sure who's installing them does it right the first time. You don't want an exhaust leak and then have to do everything all over again and waste money. Put it this way, I pieced a supercharger kit together for under 2K. I spent $1200 on headers and install.

ok thanks for the input guys... looks like ill be saving it and buying cams instead. Anyone know if the Comp Cams XE270 work good on stock motors!? Looking to get cams also but dont want to have to rebuild my motor or put a shitload of money in the car. just cams that will drop right in with not alot of additional stuff needed. I know most cams require stalls, gears, computer upgrade etc

r3dn3ck 12-07-2010 01:54 PM

cams should be among the last things you decide on. They cost 600 bucks plus a grand to install and another couple hundred for a tune all for 15 - 20 peak hp. They're very application specific and the return on investment is poor.

270's will need to be degreed and may fit without notched pistons. You'll want a different tq converter and 3.73 gears if you have an auto.

There are MUCH better cams that are way less radical. HiTech and Cushman both come to mind.

i had already found a pair on their website that i was really looking at.

Stage 1 Trick flow cams!? alot of people have said that they will drop right into a stock 4.6 with no problem along with not having to upgrade your gears.. Sounds good and look good, but these guys werent "true" mechanics. Any advice from you!?

r3dn3ck 12-07-2010 06:31 PM

4.6L is an interference engine. If you don't time the cams properly you're asking for a PTV catastrophe. Since you're asking, you MUST degree them. Simple as that. Cams REQUIRE a suitable gear choice on any car. If you're going to waste money on cams, don't waste it on those pissants. Waste it on a good set that wasn't just some chump maxing out the lift and duration and slapping a silly ass ramp rate on it.

Cushman stage 2 or Hitech Stage 2 if you really want a good off the shelf cam. If you want the right cam call up Nick McKinney at www.modularheadshop.com and tell him exactly what you want from the car and let him custom grind you one.

I'm not a true mechanic either... I still pay 80 bucks an hour for some things. You have to put in the time and do the research before you waste the money. Cams are a shitty shitty shitty waste unless you do the whole heads/cam/intake/exhaust package and then that's a waste if you don't do some bottom end work so you can spin that bitch to 6800.

just get the bloody blower and save yourself all the hassle.

Bahahahaha look bro if you haven't noticed r3dn3k knows pretty much everything there is to know about these cars so I suggest just taking his advice .... He has stickies in this forum and many others I am in so if he wrote it it is gospel

r3dn3ck 12-08-2010 05:58 PM

neh-gative. I just already spent that money and euphemistically punched myself in the balls for it. My euphemistic nuts hurt every time someone makes the same mistake.

Mustang, potentially very strong

sadakww: tell the rest of china to fuck off too. Ban stick wielded.

For those that give a shit, his sig is full of links to a chinese crap foundry where they appear to mix lead, selenium, mercury and melamine to make differently shaped toxic crap. His only 3 posts so far were bullshit and I'm pretty sure they're using google translate because that shit ain't English.
