2007 Shelby GT - 2 mod or not 2 mod

New guy here.....

I have a 2007 Shelby GT that is not an everyday driver. I love the car but always thought the rim / tire setup looked WAY to wimpy for the car. Just ordered the chrome deep dish bullitt rims (18's) with fatter tires. This should fix the wimpy look issue and I can save the originals.

Now about the motor.....well, its OK....but I am sure it would be a lot nicer with an extra 50+ HP. The question is, down the road, what would mods do to the cars value? This assumes that it would be a collectable one day.

Are there motor mods that would not hurt value in a collectors eyes or am I just better off with it being....OK.

Thanks,

D

The car will never be collectible unless somehow all of the other Shelby GTs are destroyed.. You'll have to keep that car for 60 years for it to ever be worth anything.

Mod the living hell out of it, have fun.

+1. There's too high of a production number.

Get a 100-shot of nitrous. Ta da! 12-second stang.

18s are going to look small on your 07.

Agreed. I think 20s look best, or 19s at least. But your choice.

Thanks for the input. You might be right about it having any future collector value. I didn't buy it for that and was fortunate to practically steal it from the dealer when I bought it. As far as the 20's go, I agree they probably look the coolest but the are just too impractical for all of the potholes in the northeast. I didn't mind the profile of the original 18's (especially since the Shelby is already lowered) - just needed a wider tires to make it all come together.

There has got to be a more options than nitrous. Im looking for all around increase in engine performance (ie - track days, etc.). I've never worked with nitrous but I thought that was for drag strips only.

As I side note....

I checked out the est. production figures and unless this is wrong, there weren't that many GT's produced.

I cant help but think that the GT would hold its value a lot better than the GT500 since it was actually finished at Shelby's plant. Seems like there are significantly more 500s produced and they come straight from Ford. With less than 1800 (white, man trans) GT's produced worldwide it doesn't seem like there are too many out there. I guess time will tell.

Your car, your call. But I dont see the Shelby GT being a collectors item really. Sure it may hold value better than a GT, but it wont be going up in value anytime even close to the near future. May as well have fun with it, they are sweet looking cars stock.

Your probably right...who knows. I never bought it for an investment....just kind of fell for it when I happened to come across one at a small local car show (I also never had a chance to own a muscle car and had a bug for a white car for a long time). It was the look of the car that sold me on it , the white with silver, no tail, lowered suspension, etc (its now going to be perfect with the wider tires which arrive today!). I do enjoy it very much now so I guess I'll take it slow and see how it goes.

^^ I agree. You're car may be limited production (not really) but there's nothing special about it to hold its value. Its not like a Track-Pak Roush or anything, you can't jump in it and go straight to a track and kick ass. Nor is it supercharged or anything else really.

Sure Shelby built it, but it's not like he built it from the fllor up. Its just a plain GT that gets some accessories slapped on it.

By the way. :GotPics:

poke it, stroke it, have someone port the heads, add some good lumpy cams and a good tune on your 3v and you'll probably be really damned close to happy. That's a combo you can easily squeeze low 12's out of. Add 125 shot of giggle juice and you're down in deep 11's.

Yea that would be the other route. But you're also looking at about $3000 for a stroke/built motor, another $1000 for cams, and if you get Livernois Stage 2 heads another $2000 there.

Stock GTs can pull out a 13.0 flat with stickies and a proper suspension, add in some spray and you're into the 11s with bolt-ons, and add in some cams and you're looking at 12.6-12.7s.
