Retuned issue

Well I finally got the CAI installed today (took about 20min) and reprogrammed her with the custom program on my sct flash tuner. I took her out for a spin and could tell a little difference in her giddy-up but the main diff was in the shifting. It is a auto btw. It seems to be shifting really hard. Even my kids noticed the diff. Is that a normal side effect of the new tune or is there something out of whack?

Switch 03-18-2009 07:52 PM

That's not a side effect, but an actual variable that they change in the tune. In automatics they usually raise the shift pressure to make it shift faster. You'll notice that you can chirp the tires at close to wide open throttle now. If you don't like it, you can lower back to what it was with the tuner. Though, it's one of my favorite benefits about getting a tune in an auto.

It is a part of the tune like switch said. That's a major part of the tune in auto S197's because the stock automatic pretty much sucks at shifting.

hate to steal the thread, but anyone know a decent tuner btw?

Buy a used SCT tuner for around $200 and buy a mail order tune from justin at vmp tuning for $50.

That's the absolute guaranteed best thing you could do, short of driving to florida and having justin dyno tune your vehicle.

Black Sunshine 03-19-2009 06:48 AM

It is normal. I noticed that when I installed my intake and tune, too. I love the hard shifting. :)

JScottGT 03-19-2009 07:57 AM

It may be counter-intuitive, but it is better for your trans as well. It does not build up heat while the clutches are slipped between shifts. The stock calibration on the auto is set up so you do not feel the shifts. For better performance and longer life, you want the shifts to occur faster and harder.

I have always preferred faster and harder myself. ;)

Thanks everyone! I read the manual that came with the tuner but it's about as useful as tits on a boar. It's good to know it's doing what it's supposed to.

Hahaha. You crack me up! :D

The 'manual' that came with my SCT X3 was merely a slip of paper about 2" x 8 1/2" that said 'to upload custom tune, do this, do this do this. If you have any problems please call your dealer or SCT customer support' or some shit like that.

Issues are resolved!!! Drove the stang to Nashville to work and back and SONOFABITCH!!! I may not need my husband to come home and satisfy me. Just need to take a ride in the stang. Really wasn't expecting it to drive that much different but WOWOWOWO I'v had sex that wasn't that much fun. She's up there between a "fresh raped ape" and "fresh scalded dawg". Can't wait to add more.

I think you've finally caught the mod bug :D

If you think a cold air intake and tune is better than sex then what the hell would this do for you?

Theres a supercharger under there. By the way.

Black Sunshine 03-20-2009 12:08 PM

She'd probably die if she got 4.10's. :D

True, but increasing line pressure is not the best way to do it. You can increase it too much and cause problems.

mustangrn 03-20-2009 12:43 PM

4.10's are next on the long list of mods. I've had the mod bug but just didn't have the financial backing til I got a J-O-B.

Steeda97 03-20-2009 12:44 PM

Skip the gears for now and just spray it. lol.

mustangrn 03-20-2009 12:59 PM

No nos for me, but thanks.

Steeda97 03-20-2009 02:40 PM

lol.

then supercharge it or something balla

mustangrn 03-20-2009 02:59 PM

Some day, maybe when I win the lottery.

Steeda97 03-20-2009 03:17 PM

if not then definitely go with 4.10's. 3.73's or 3.90's if you do a bunch of highway driving.
