13sec runs stock GT only any body

how about conv GT.s ????

WaterDR 09-16-2004 05:05 PM

Totally stock? I doubt it. Even at sea level in Fl that would be tough with all the extra weight. I give it a definate maybe. My car as modded only runs a 13.8 corrected. If I could learn to drive better, I should be able to pull a 13.4 corrected, but heck I have wider and better tires too than stock. The pros are only pulling high 13's with stock coupes. I believe verts generally run mid to low 14's stock.

Just my thoughts.......

spike_africa 09-18-2004 07:12 AM

i got my 02 gt stick. Totaly stock down to the air filter and silencer went 14.3@98 with bald back tires and at the ****test track in the world orlando speed world. plus it was 98* the day i ran my car. i have yet to go back to try again but i think a vert would be around 3tenths slower due to your extra weight. so like a 14.5-14.6 would sould right for a vert.

madmatt 09-18-2004 07:43 AM

I think there have only been a few people to actually take stock one to the thirteens. Its very hard to do and you have to drive the car like you absolutely hate it. I just dont see it being worth it to beat the crap out of your car to make it run a 13 stock. Just work your way up to it.

WaterDR 09-18-2004 08:01 AM

Yeah. You have to drive it like you just stole it from your wife's boyfriend. You really have to hate your car to get the most from it. I prefer to like mine and have it a tad slower.

madmatt 09-18-2004 08:02 AM

LOL your wifes boyfriend...yea id rather be slow and unbroken.

GoldMustangGT 09-18-2004 09:13 PM

The track i run at is at ~1500 feet so im happy with 14.7's with catback, pullies, and intake...

hammer 09-18-2004 11:49 PM

4 letter words

"fast" is a GOOD word..."cost" is a BAD one. I ran 12.8's at FunFordWeekend in Bristol last month (Saleen S281 with twinturbo) on street tires and with stock 3.27 rear. Managed to blow up the engine on my final run though...
"drive it like you hate it" = "drive it like you're rich".
:(

WaterDR 09-19-2004 05:06 AM

Sorry to hear that hammer. What caused the motor to go BOOM. Did you ever figure it out?

I KNEW I SAW A ROLL CAGE! Sorry to hear about your car blowing up, but that just means forged shortblock and more hours at work ey? I want pics lol. :D

hammer 09-19-2004 02:44 PM

Up in smoke!

Here's a look at the tires going up in smoke ... right before my billfold also went up in smoke. Haven 't torn the engine down now but looks like a rod  let go...plenty of scrap. The oil pan looks like it took a hit from a Claymore mine.
Now that I have an anchor I may go look at some boats this week...
(not really!)

smokin'!!!

Here's a look at the tires starting to go up in smoke ....right before my billfold did the same. Haven't torn down the engine yet but looks like a rod let go.
Plus, the oil pan looks like it took a hit from a Claymore mine.
As Arnold said..'I'll be back!"

WaterDR 09-19-2004 05:12 PM

I HATE to say it, but if you play I gues you gotta pay. Sounds like you have a lot of cool plans for the car. This is one of the reason why I don't race soo much. Eventually, something will go.

midnightblueGT 09-23-2004 04:32 PM

14.5

i ran my gt to a 14.503 at 96mph with a k&n air filter. at an altitude of 2900 feet. i bet if you ran at sea level it is possible to break into the 13's

WaterDR 09-23-2004 05:09 PM

That's a great time for your altitude. As a general rule. each 1,000 feet costs you about 0.3 - 0.4 seconds. That could put you in the low 13's at sea level. There are lots of guys running in high 12's with only 250 hp to the tires with 4.10's and DR's and a little bit of a diet.

Do you know how to correct your times for altitude and weather? I canpoint you in the right direction.

PhoenixGT 09-23-2004 10:02 PM

Hey Hammer, sorry you lost your engine. You say you had twin turbos. Have you ever run a supercharger? What were the factors that made you decide on turbos? Interested in hearing pros and cons of both.
Thanks

04 STANG 09-25-2004 12:07 AM

Thats sucks.

Sure how do you do it??? i dont know how... i just drive and see how it goes

2000 STEEDA 09-27-2004 05:35 PM

I see convertible GT's running 14.5's. I have pulled 13.8's here in Baton Rouge with my coupe. It has slight mods (underdrive pulleys, 75mm throttle body, MAC CAI, headers, x-pipe, flowmaster 40's, etc) but I didnt have to drive it like it just crapped on my floor.

I honestly didnt think that there was that much weight difference between the two. Down here, 100 pounds = about .10 in time.

1 - Go to www.modulardepot.com

2 - Register yourself so you can use the sight. BUT, don't leave us here...we love you!

3 - Click on "My ET's" at the top section, and fill in your info fromt he time slip. You need altitude and weather conditions from the run. The program will do the rest.

This is a great way to compare runs from different nights or from different tracks. A 14.3 one night may be actually slower than a 14.5 from another night. This is a good way to determine how you are really doing.

02wt5sp 09-28-2004 02:51 AM

need new tires

I just ran mine for the first time last friday(on the worst track in the world)
Pulled a 14.14 @100.67 with probably the worst 60' due to spinning--2.29(stock tires)
I was under 100 feet above sea level (virginia)

13's COMPLETELY Possible

I ran a 14.12 @ 99.8 before the diff. and tires. We need to define stock, but I consider my car to be "stock", because the engine is bone stock. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe NMRA allows the type of mods I have for their "stock" class. I, too, am having a driver problem recently, but I fully expect to run 13's before I take my Nitto's off for the winter in a few weeks. Stay tuned.

spike_africa 10-08-2004 12:56 PM

my car was totaly stock i mean everything when i ran a 14.3@98 with just a off road pipe and cheap mac CAI i ran a 14@100 and i just ordered osme nitto's so we will see about those 13's.

02Stang 10-11-2004 01:04 AM

I have a 02 GT and Bone Stock went a 13.8 at 100 MPH at cecil county MD
Now The car has a good bit done to it and curently i pulled a 13.3 at 108.64MPH so its has been done before that i have seen and done myself :)

Don't forget guys, the question was originally posted about stock verts. I have never seen or heard of a bone stock vert running 13's. Too me stock is off the showroom floor for the purpose of my response.

2000 STEEDA 10-11-2004 02:34 PM

Agreed. I also have never seen a convertible run 13's stock.

02Stang 10-11-2004 04:11 PM

i miss read the post but i dont know what stock converts run

jjtgiants 03-11-2005 09:46 AM

So how much heavier or the verts??? 300-400 pounds?

Get some nitto drag radials, I love mine. They are fine in the rain. Better than the Tires that came on my car some Futura 245/50s, pep boys brand, Im sure after the treads gone that will change. Ive been driveing one them everyday for a month, and hardly any wear is showing. They corner Better than the street tires i Had on there.

I have 4 new tires on rims which i bought when i ordered the nittos figuring i would have to swap for rainy weeks, But no need.
