PI head swap
i was just wondering the average cost of doing a PI head + intake swap, with a Dyno tune. my local performance shop is closed now, and i was just wondering how much i had to save up to do it.

You can get a complete kit like this for $1,415 and that's all new parts and everything you need.
Or you can look around get a used intake $80-150, then find used heads like these here. Then you can get the ford racing PI head changing kit which has all the gaskets etc.. you need to do the job found here. So I would do it by getting used heads in good shape, then a used PI intake with a metal coolant crossover (late 01-04 GT's) and getting the head changing kit. You might be able to find that cheaper else where too. |
i assume the stock tune for the car works with the PI heads, then?
thank you for the links. i still have an annoying misfire too. changing the heads and intake is a great way to get rid of it and add power. :D |
No, the car will have to be tuned for sure. You will be gaining a lot of airflow and compression and the stock tune will not cut it. You can most likely drive it easily to the dyno otherwise no WOT once the swap is done without a tune.

kay, i have a performance shop i can get a dyno tune from, thank you for all the info! now i need to find a write up about doing the swap.
|
Its just a basic swap from what I understand. Just a matter of swapping heads, intake, and setting the cams up again. I will see what I can find, I used to have some links on that some where. I will post them when I find them for you.

i've been looking myself, the closest i got was a Thunderbird. and there is no proper write up on this forum either.
just bought the heads and intake off of Ebay. i went with a new intake instead of used. spend 500 bucks for the parts. not a bad haul. :) |
Nice find, don't forget that head changing kit from ford too.

What about the exhaust manifolds though? I thought the PI manifolds were slightly different..
|
never heard anything about them. i plan on doing this swap either when i have enough money to have the shop put em in, or do it myself in the summer. i might swap for some shorties. :)

Sorry to hi jack.. t I have a 98 gt.. Allso have a 2000 GT short block and heads cams and intake still together... The only thing I should need is that Kit right?
|
Are you gonna swap the whole motor or just the heads with cams, and intake? If your gonna just swap parts you need that install kit.
