3.8 to 4.6 swap.

Don't know if this is the appropriate area for this. But ive been considering a 3.8 to 4.6 swap. Any details on this? Anyone seen this before? Thanks.

Stephen4036 12-14-2008 10:01 PM

no man, no one has ever swapped a v8 into a v6.. sorry

Mr. Zip 12-14-2008 10:37 PM

^ sarcasm right? haha

Stephen4036 12-14-2008 10:39 PM

nope, im dead serious. I have never seen a v8 on a v6 chasis.

SeanStang 12-14-2008 10:39 PM

Not easy. You'll need a lot of shit. Engine, trans, drivetrain, rear end, etc....Pretty much need a whole GT to swap over. If you do swap a v8 in try to get your hands on a 4v or even look into the 5.4, wouldn't waste my time for a 2v honestly.

Im slowly getting my car ready for a swap. Gunna finish my suspension, upgrade the brakes, swap the rear out then save up the motor/trans and all the other goodies that i'll need. Either gunna get a 4v or possibly get a short block and build it up on the side. Gotta see what kinda money i have to work with at the time.

Most people are gunna tell you it's a waste of money, and to just sell your 6er and to just buy a GT; but it's your car dude. Personally Im never selling my stang; it's my first, won't be my last, but i'm holding on to this one for sure. Putting money into my 6er is in no way a waste to me.

Goodluck with the swap.

Been done many times lol.

if u buy a GT its a real building block for a fast car.. from a GT its easy to get 4v or 5.4 like sean said, to go from V6 to 5.4 its a bottomless $$$$ pit.

There's a guy on here that went from a 3.8 to a 4.6 to a 5.4 (bored out to 5.6L.) I have yet to hear any complaints out of him..

krenogin 12-15-2008 09:10 AM

thats pretty wicked, and i see. that would typically change the whole drivetrain of the car. hmm, well then i guess its 4.2 twin turbo FTW for me.

3.8LMustang 12-15-2008 09:54 AM

just buy a v8 cuz it will be cheaper to do it that way or yes just mod ur v6 up. turbo/supercharger

im gonna buy a 87 5.0 sumtime :) gonna have a v6 and a V8 :D

I was at the turkey rod in daytona beach and there was about 4 v8s in v6 chassis there. They ha a few 4 valves a 5.4l and a terminator in a 94 6er chassis.

agreed. I found this guy that built his v6 good on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jBhYJe3n08 thats the video, i guess it'd be best to do that then. Becuz i dont wanna trade up for a GT. I guess it'll be fun being the outcast souped up sixxer. only thing ill miss is that v8 sound.

I was just saying because you've wrecked your firebird, wrecked your mustang and had the hood fly up on the mustang which some people can consider a wreck I guess...

firebird was tequila's fault not mine :/
mustang hood was b/c the line from the door to the latch broke so the next time i closed it didnt 100 percent engage and the safety latch couldnt hold it that long...

well the firebird cost 2,500 and i wedged under an F150 and all i did was trade paint with his frame.. except my hood was dented in and shit broke when the cop made me reverse out.. so no damage to his car and i didnt have collision so it cost me nothing nor did it cost geico anything

Mr. Zip 12-15-2008 07:55 PM

yeah I've been planning to Cobra R my sixer out for a long time. It's pretty much gonna be my driver for many many years
