torque converter or tranny problem
 

Ive got a 2000 GT with a automatic, and im having kind of a problem im gonna try to explain. the tranny shifts fine, ive drove it everyday for the past 2 years and it does this, i can beat on it all day and it never slips, but heres the deal.
Lets say im running 55-60mph and i brake to slow down for a stop light or someone is turning off, if im braking and then i suddenly get into the gas, its like you rev it up and neatral drop it and then it graps and gets rubber, almost like the torque converter is completely unlocking and then suddenly locking up. If i wait a sec and just ease into the gas its fine. The tranny shifts fine all the time, has a very firm shift being i think the last owner said it had a shift kit installed. This problem never worried me much, but i was coming back home on the interstate sat night and i was running 65mph, i kicked it down to pass someone and it done this going that fast and it got rubber.... any info? any help appreciated.

I bet you have a trans go shift kit installed. Something is either damaged because of it, or it is causing your problems. Either way, it needs to be removed.

I mean it isnt a big problem, i just dont want the tranny going outta this beast. it is fine as ive drove it like this since 2006, and the last owner was a friend of mine who had it 3 years and claimed it done the same thing then. im just curious of what the cause is. have you heard of this certain shift kit doing this?

i have an 00 GT Auto aswell, and ive been told i need a tranny cooler, so If you want get one of this as a pre caution then try and goto a shop and see if they will drive it and determine what could be wrong.

I would recommend a tranny cooler to anyone anytime you do something to the transmission. I learned that the hard way when I installed my s/c. Even though I have a built transmission I still have a tranny cooler...cheap mod that will save you a few thousand.

I have heard of numerous problems with the trans go shift kit, thats why I said what I did. You say your problem isnt serious, but you're worried about the tranny blowing. Theres obviously something wrong with the tranny that could cause it to eventually break. So Id say it is a serious problem that should be looked at by a professional. I highly doubt a tranny cooler is going to fix this problem.

Also make sure the fluid level is correct.
