Blue smoke on start ups?

i dont drive the mustang too much. i probably only put 500 miles on it in the past 2 months. when i fire it up each week i see quite a bit of blue smoke bellowing out from behind the car. what is the car telling me...is oil getting passed my rings? i really dont know what to think about this...any ideas from you guys would be great

sell it before it blows up.

i wouldnt mind it blowing up but i would like it to last until i come back to the states. i have 9 more months left out here and i dont want to spend 600-800 dollars to ship a long block out to me along with other misc. parts and pieces.

Its definitely oil but is it just during start up, or when its already warmed up?

Start up its a valve guide or seal. 2000's and under tend to have this problem. Get a compression test.

Warmed up its a piston ring.

its only on cold starts...

i dont have time to do the compression test...

i guess the 12#'s of boost is starting to take its toll after 26K miles. i put the blower on 3 years ago built motor money has been burning a hole in my pocket for the past year.

After it warms up they should seal up fine.

Valve seals have hardened up a little and the oil leaks pass them and goes into the cyl. When you start the motor the heat burns the oil, hince the blue smoke. Its not a major cost to replace them.

90% of the time when its on start-up only, its just valve stem seals and nothing major. like he said, shouldnt be too expensive to fix it.

thanks y'all...at least i know that the car will last a bit longer. well, now i have a real aggressive tune that has 17* of timing on pump gas so any chance of detonation could lead to engine failure and oil getting into my cylinders will be bad news! i have 2 more race weekends to attend! i hope the pig makes it and i get my low 12 second passes in.
