headers and mid pipe

as you all know choosing what exhaust set up you want is one of the most difficult choices in life! recently i purchased the Borla Stinget cat back system for my 2001 GT auto and had my mind set on BBK LT headers and catted shorty x pipe until i realized the headers were for only manual transmittions, now im back at square one with choosing which headers i want! Does anyone have any suggestions on what header and midpipes i should get to go with my Borla Stingers?

bassman97 07-13-2008 12:30 PM

I believe Hookers and Macs fit. You can also see if Kooks fits also.

blownstang 07-14-2008 01:37 PM

Kooks or American Racing Headers

Stephen4036 07-14-2008 02:35 PM

do you like your stingers? i am looking at those.

stanggt01 07-16-2008 05:12 AM

i dont know i havent intstalled them yet im in iraq right now and wont be home for another month im just tryin to get all of the parts together for when i get home! but from what i hear there really good ive listened to alot of clips and talked to alot of people and they all say they like them

PureStang 07-16-2008 09:03 AM

you'll like the stingers.

if i were you, i would get some bassani mid length headers and the bassani x-pipe.

White04GT 07-16-2008 09:53 AM

Get bassani mid length's and the bassani o/r x pipe. I have that set up on my blown GT and it's an auto but with the slp power flow catback. It sounds mean!

stanggt01 07-16-2008 11:34 AM

thats what i was thinking either bassani or slp i just looked on bassani's website and dont see anything for automatics where did you get them from? i was talking to one of the reps from BBK and he said they are workin on coming out with some headers for automatics in a few monts but didnt say exactly how long

stanggt01 07-16-2008 11:42 AM

ok i just emailed bassani's tech support and they said they dont have anything for 99-04 automatics...?

White04GT 07-16-2008 01:03 PM

They will. I have them on my car. My shop I get all my work done had to cut a flange that was in the way or something, but they bolted right up.

stanggt01 07-17-2008 06:06 AM

hmmm i dont know if i wanna go cuttin things! lol thanks for the advice i think ill wait until i can find something for autos though i appreciate it!

ShapeShifter 07-18-2008 10:21 AM

MAC Longtubes and VRS O/R X Pipe on my auto.

stanggt01 07-18-2008 11:39 AM

never heard of vrs

stanggt01 07-20-2008 08:17 AM

ok so i finally found headers that will work with my car, hooker LT ceramic coated, now i just need to decide what mid pipe i want, i was thinkin an off road x but i dont know what brand, does anyone have any suggestions?

my setup

Hooker LT headers, Borla stinger cat back
Steeda underdrive pulleys
bbk CAI
Hankook 245/45/17r

for dress up i have
biillet window switches, billet headlight knob, billet 8 in shorty antenna
GT embroidered floormats
ford racing coolant overflow and oil caps lazer engraved with GT
black projector headlights w/ clear corners
mach 1 chin spoiler
American Flag mustang badge on front bumper
tail lights smoked with the letters G in the left and T in the right so when i hit the breaks it says GT
5% tint on rear windows

future mods
H&R sport springs
Tokico blue shocks and struts
MM C/C plates
paint chin spoiler and mirrors silver to match car
stripes
35% front window tint and 8 in brow

ive also replaced the ball joints, radiator and rear axel seals but they were all OE

bassman97 07-21-2008 06:54 AM

If you want Hooker headers, you have to use their mid-pipe. Also, as a suggestion, get some ball-and-socket collectors from Flowmaster since slip-on collectors leak. You don't have to but it makes taking the mid pipe off easier and eliminates most the leaks that the Hookers are known for.

mustngspd 07-24-2008 10:41 PM

i got mac lt's on my auto gt, i installed them in two days in my garage and they fit like a glove :)

skylark 07-26-2008 09:34 AM

Anyone getting documanted resulys from the LT's? Those Hooker coated nheaders are very expensive, $900. I saw a pair go on ebay for a bit over $300. though recently. I am running a PYPES catted X-pipe and stock catback due to DRONE I could not stand and after I read that a catback adds 3-4whp, like what a waste of cash!

bassman97 07-26-2008 01:36 PM

If you think $900 are expensive, just look at the price of SLP and Kooks headers.

stanggt01 07-27-2008 06:20 AM

i ended up goin with the hooker headers and off road x thanks for everones input ill try and post results when i get them installed but that will be another month or so when i get home!

gotMACH04 07-27-2008 08:15 AM

ive got hooker LT's and am very pleased with them. plus you dont have to remove them if you have to take out the tranny. i didnt get a dyno before installation, but afterwards i was pleased with the power numbers

stanggt01 07-28-2008 07:27 AM

what kind of numbers did you get?

This is a BIG plus in my book. You can do this with most headers, but it's a task.

gotMACH04 07-28-2008 04:06 PM

with the mods in sig, i made 314rwhp and 347rwtq, but im a 4v

White04GT 07-28-2008 05:11 PM

With headers mid pipe and tune you should pick up around 25-30rwhp

M_Stang 08-11-2008 01:58 PM

Can Anyone tell me what i torqu my BBK Shorty Headers down at for my 4.6 2000 GT

stanggt01 08-12-2008 06:27 AM

another question reguardin the exhaust set up! do i need mil eliminators or will my diablo predator take care of that or what?

M_Stang 08-12-2008 01:54 PM
