X-pipe Installation...
 

Got my X-pipe delivered yesterday... would love to install it tomorrow... any hints on how to do it on a 5-speed convertible?

I believe I've been told I need to cut the factory setup off if I don't want to remove my rear axel... any hints on what to do this with or where to cut?

I've also heard some things about a breaker bar... what exactly is that... just an extension to a rachet to give u more leverage?

And I once read that a special offset rachet was useful for some of the screws... any particulars I should know about that?

Any other hints and ideas you guys have are appreciated as well!! Thanks!!

This should give you an idea of what you are looking at with the X pipe install.

As far as the rear axel, your talking about the catback install. When I installed my SLP catback I had a sawzall and cut the old catback off. That is the only way to do it really, and is quicker with a sawzall than a handsaw for sure. Once you have the old catback off, th new one bolts up with the same bolts. If you don't have a lift, then it can be a pain sometime on the back. The catback really isn't hard to do at all.

Catback install is really easy if you want to throw away the original catback. As he said, you simply cut out the mufflers and unbolt from the mid pipe. It's a 30 minute job with a lift.

If you want the stocker one off intact, than you have to drop the rear axle.

The mid pipe is a bit more difficult. If you are keeping the stock catback on, then just unbolt the mid pipe in the front and back and drop it down. Getting the after-market one on is a bit more of a problem as it is hard to get a tight seal on the front passenger side. Mid pipes can suck to get on or they can be easy.

Alright... the catback is on... took me quite a while due to a few silly problems but it's all good... sounds good to me... not as loud yet... but I'm sure the high flow x-pipe will help that :)

One quick question... I know there's a problem with exhaust leak on some bolt on exhausts so people will have them welded... how do I know if I have that? I don't hear anything "weird", just curious what it would sound like... let me know, thanks!

After the install, crank up the car and check under the car. You will know if you hear a leak. As long as you get the clamps on tight you will not have a problem. You can always get everything welded together after the install as well.

No reason to EVER weld an exhaust on these cars. You can get it right with the gaskets and bolts.

well after I installed my SLP catback I didnt' tighten one of the tailpipes on correctly ( it was late ) and it fell off the next morning, haha

so I was tempted to get them welded that day but I'm cheap,haha
