Time to blow some money

So i got some extra cash really wanting out of my pocket.

I know i would like to cam my car, with a very aggressive idle lope, and a quick responsive rev (who wouldent) but my question to you guys is which cam is good for my car? (boltons, p1sc 12lbs, 4.10s etc) any info would be appreciated.

Also i would like to redo my exhaust. I have flowmaster catback with a off road x pipe. The car is too low for emissions so i dont care about the loudness nor the cats. and its not a daily driver so i would like a very aggressive exhaust.

any info very greatly appreciated! thanks.

if i had a GT i'd go with SLP's loudmouth 1 or Magnaflow Magnapacks.

the first one? yeah, i actually really like the sound before the ecu starts to correct and you hear the rev. now to find a set of cams and springs that will produce that sound.

You can also try www.brenspeed.com for the cam kit, they have a few choices i think. For the exhaust you can't go wrong with flowmaster 2 chamber mufflers, and add some headers....

blownstang 05-26-2008 12:23 AM

You have to let us know how much cash you have. Most supercharger kits will run you around $4,000. Cams and springs will be ~ $800. Longtube headers and midpipe can be anywhere from $550 to $1500. Gears and bearing kit will be around $300. I would recommend keeping your catback and going with some longtubes and matching h/x pipe, frame connectors, plenum/throttle body, gears, lower control arms, SCT Xcal 2 with a custom tune. Right there you are already looking at ~ $2300 for just parts and a tune. If you have the longtubes, frame connectors, and gears installed you are looking at another $850. So let us know what your budget is.

Not clear if you have a SC but I will forget about all the small stuff and just slap a SC on.

4literGasEater 05-26-2008 07:39 AM

no you guys misunderstood me, i have a charger gears and a dyno tune. just looking for a bit more power.

list all your bolt ons and how much you want to spend. It doesn't seem like you have longtubes so i would do those first. You should gain around 20rwhp after having it retuned. Also, do you have a built motor? If not, i would say you're already pushing the limit with the 12lbs of boost.

yeah i want long tubes. the motor is not built no, but my tuner tuned to car very safe. And considering it takes forever to build boost its never at 12 pounds when i am just messing around.

I will make a list later, i got some stuff to get done. I know i want long tubes and a good set of cams and springs. and i am really clueless on cams. and info appreciated.

Also let us know what kind of numbers the car is putting down. Usually guys with full bolt ons, supercharger cams, and 10psi are seeing around 460rwhp. That is really pushing it on the stock motor. Anything over 400rwhp is asking for trouble. Cushman Stage 2 Blower cams (formerly known as VT) and Modular Powerhouse blower cams make great power. I would go with Modular Powerhouse custom grinds since they do specialize in supercharged applications.

i made around 390hp/tq. i am by no means full bolt ons and i would like to see 450. but i do know that is not considered "safe" this is where i dont really like my tuner. because most guys say i could see more power out of my car. I need a good tuner in my area to talk too. Anyone in the MD area have a good recommendation?

For 12psi and no headers your power seems very right. Headers will put you at like 410rwhp. Why is it you don't like your tuner? because he gave you a safe tune? Seems like a good tuner to me! I would rather make less power safely, than more power and run the risk of blowing the car up on the first wide open throttle run. There are 2 local guys who have been running 460rwhp on their stock motors for 3 years now, but then you never know when it will let loose. It's basically hit or miss. You may blow up on the dyno, or it may last you for years.

well sorry i really dont have a idea of a "right" number for my car. but no i dont like my tuner because he seems to never give me a straight answer. and my idle air is a bit odd. hes a very nice guy so i guess its just me. i would be very happy with 410, and im sure i could do a bit better with a decent cam.

limited 05-27-2008 11:42 AM

just keep in mind that with a blower grind cam it will not have as a aggresive lope as a n/a cam because of the lsa required. I run vt (cms now)stage 3's and although you can tell I have cams it is not like their n/a stage 2's. I have noticed some low end power loss, but at 4000+ there is a very noticable increase in power

PureStang 05-28-2008 09:17 PM

i would not get cams what so ever if i had 390hp. if you got decent cams, that would put you over 425 which is where you will start to get problems. until you build your motor, i suggest no getting cams.

as for exhaust get what you like. go to some meets and see if fellow mustangers will let you hear their exhaust.

i have had slp lm1's with a catted x pipe. now i have an o/r h pipe and magnapacks. both are very raspy and very loud. i try to baby it and its still real loud.

if i were you i would try a catted pipe with slp lm2's or magnapacks, or an o/r pipe with slp powerflows.

the next time i redo my ehxuast i am going with longtubes, o/r h (again), and borla stingers or an FR500 catback (if i can even find one now a days..give you guys a hint on my next project btw.lol)

Yup! Way over 425. He should gain 60-70rwhp with blower cams.

yellowstang99 05-29-2008 05:50 AM

I've got vt stage 2 n/a cams (was planning on staying n/a), but I have recently added a blower. I bleed a little boost out my exhaust, but it has one hell of a lope at idle.
