Default not overly impressed with 4.10's

Whoever says that 4.10's are too much gear for the street, is wrong. I though 1st gear would go by so fast and would be practically useless, but it's not. 1st gear is not that short at all. The biggest difference I noticed was that 2nd gear goes alot faster. It does pull a bit harder, but i thought that it would really put me in my seat. 1st gear and about 1/2 of 2nd spins, but the car still moves. It does not fry the tires in place. I would've been so disappointed if I went with 3.73's.

I loved the 4.10s in my GT but with a turbo coming, its time for the 3.55 or 3.27. I'll miss them

They always say don't fear the gear....but I did, and got 3.90's. Not overly impressed either.

Go with 4.30's if you don't see a poweradder in your future, or do not do a lot of driving above 60mph. If you do, the 4.10's will be fine. At 70mph i'm right around 2300 rpms. 45mph in 5th is 1500rpms.

i put 3.73's in mine, but thats also because i was using 150 shot or i would have done 4.10's since i daily drive mine

if it was just NA and i only drove it locally i would have done 4.30's

for reference mine is a 4000 stall auto

and the 3.73 stick 4.10 auto is old pushrod logic, they had different gear ratios in their trans and pushrods didn't generally rev as high either

with modulars it's 3.73/4.10 for power adders and 4.10/4.30 NA depending on driving habits stick or auto doesn't make a difference

Thats why I think sometimes these forums may be a little misleading. You can use the info as a guideline and only a guideline. What works for somebody else may not work for you.

You should pick a gear for your driving style. I choose 4.10s and I am very pleased with the performance. I am running a 26" tall tire and about 2150 at 70mph. I personally dont think 4.30s are too much for the street but there will be 100 people disagree, so what do you do? Do what you think is right for you and your wallet.

Yes, if you launch it off of 5,000 rpms, but if you just hit it off of idle there should be no frying. I can sit there and fry my tires too thanks to the SLP line lock.

4.10's for auto with power adder, 4.30's for auto without power adder.

the only complaint I have with my 4.10s is there is no "happy" spot with the rpms at 45mph which is the speed I travel around here 90% of the time. 4th gear revs a little high for my taste at 45mph and 5 gear bogs the car at like 1300 rpms.

no, i can take off normal at 1200 or so and then nail my throttle after the clutch is out and my rear tires light up very well. Thats what i meant.

hmmm... what kind of tires do you have? I have 255/40/17BFG KDW II's. They spin a little in 1st. Going into 2nd spins alot more, but still moving decently. It's not like flooring it in the rain.

45mph is my perfect spot. I have 255/40/17 BFG KDW II"s which are 25" tall and it puts me right at 1500 rpms in 5th. For me the problem is driving between 35-40 miles per hour because i'm either close to or at 2,000 rpms in 4th, or at 1200 rpms in 5th.

I think all my gears go by faster since I had mine put in.

Not sure what to tell you on this. In my GT, I have no problem getting 1st and 2nd to spin. If I stand on it, 3rd will spin for me as well.

yes but you have an 05 which has more base power and skinny 235 tires easier to spin

4.10's going in my car tomorrow and what I was glad to read this post because I had been thinking maybe I went too far. Think I can relax now and look forward to enjoying. I don't think I fear the gear anymore. Thanks.

i love my 4.10s. couldnt be happier...i dont think that 4.30's would be good because when i drag race, im already at the top of 4th. i think that if i had 4.30's i would have to shift to 5th before the 1320.

You shouldn't have to shift in 5th unless you're trapping over 108mph with 4.30's, and over 112mph with 4.10's on a 26" tire.
