Yesterday i went to race a gto, got to about 70 and it started making this noise, which followed me all the way home. I popped the hood and the spark plug blew right out of the head!!! So i looked at it this morning and i think the plug just came loose because it threads back in w/ no problem. The thing is when it shot out it just about broke the stock coil in half. So i was looking at the accel coil's for about $200, which seems better than just buying one stock coil for $59, but are those any good??? Im gonna change my plugs too while im at it any suggestions??

damn man that sucks, well as for the ACCEL coils i hear that they r good but u might just want to check other forums about ACCEL, thats wat i always do b4 i buy sumthing i just see the reviews on it

unless your making a ton of HP those aftermarket coils are a waste, save your money for more important things, like a new cyl head(s), a heli-coil or time-cert kit to fix the threads in that head, as that blown plug thing will come back......

Like randy said you are going to need to heli-coil that plug hole now cause the threads are stripped pretty good it it tossed a plug out. The good news is that its not alot of money to to heli-coil a spark plug hole. Most can be done with the head still on the car. I've done a few of them its not to bad, but if your unsure of what your doing a mechanic can do it, and it still wouldnt cost to much.

only time will tell, it's been my past experience when a plug comes-out, it usally takes some or all the threads wth it...run it and sea what happens, I'm not trying to wish you any bad MOJO but save your money for other stuff instead of those aftermarket coils.....

My thinking is that i can get the accel for $200 a set of 8, and the stock ones will be $41 a piece. And i would imagine that i should just get all 8 because the car has nearly 90k miles so the ones on there now are prob a lil worn. Would that make a difference though or should i just buy one for the $41 cause that would still save me about 150????? lol

I have like 10 stock 2v coils on plug coils in my garage. I'll send you 3 of them for 10 bucks plus 8 bones shipping.

I'd say if the car was running fine before, just buy one new stock coil. If that plug coming out didn't mess up your threads, maybe it wasn't tightened enough by whoever installed them. Could have wiggled loose due to vibration and then just popped out when there were enough threads to hold it. I once had a spark plug come out of my dirtbike while I was riding. I thought it was ruined...but I put it back in when I got home and it never gave me a problem again.

The one you're replacing is being replaced because of physical damage... mine's just a cheap deal for my board-boys. Your call.

I also have one or two as well. Stick with stock ones. Between Randy, Redneck, and I there is about 100 years of experience (99 just form those two). Redneck is one of the best mechanics on this board and Randy has been dealing with Ford parts and racing fast Fords for longer then most guys that you will ever meet on the internet.
If it were we me, this is what I would do. I would have the threads inspected and repaired before driving it. I am not a big fan of repeating a problem. Chances are that thing will blow again and they always find an inconvenient time. Get it fixed right and be done with it. I have a hard time believeing that any threads are left. ALSO, the remaining plugs need to be checked.

same thing happened to mine 20000 miles ago. got a heli coil works great. i did get 2000 dollars from the damn dealer ship that sold it to me tho heh.

Better have it looked at, because if you did strip threads out, then you could have some shavings floating around down there. Your oil filter will catch probably all of it. I would make sure your threads are in top shape and then do and oil and filter change just for the filter may have some metal shavings inside of it. Best to get that filter off cause it did it's job.
Filters catch the bad stuff, but the bad stuff also decreases the filters ability to keep your oil flowing at an optimum rate.. And better yet if you do find your threads were stripped, I would drop the oil pan and look closer. Your oil screen will catch them big chunks, but you don't want those fingernail clipping sized stuff anywhere in your oil pan. IMHO, If I blew a plug out, I would be in Preventive Maintenance mode in a big hurry. ![]() |

Well the threads are def stripped, which sucks ass, would it be a better bet just getting the heli-coil thing done or going w/ a new head. i talked w/ the local ford dealership and they said hey could to it for me for 200 bucks but theres no guarentee that its going to work so if they fuck it up i still have to pay them the labor. how much are new heads anyways?? Would i have to get them as a set or just replace the one??? shit this sucks lol

New aluminum heads ain't cheap. I would let them do a thread relacement for that plug. Not a helicoil, but a full thread replacement. Thread inserts are just that. They drill and tap a bigger hole then replace it with a hardened insert. Helicoil's I have seen in kits are thinner and softer than a thread replacement. Plus, if a good mechanic does the job and secures the insert properly, you shouldn't have any issues. This is just my opinion about thread replacement on industrial machines, not aluminum heads. I've never replaced any threads on anything aluminum. But they will have to pull the head and do that work, I would think. Geez I would hate to blow a plug out. You must have been gagging her pretty hard??

I think im gonna let them do it unless i can find some cheap heads. Anyone know if there's a recall on the stock heads??, cause i read there were alot of problem like mine, and now they're selling the heads w/ the option for heavy duty plug inserts so that sorta think doesnt happen. I called the dealership today but they were closed so i have to wait til lmonday
