I just purchased a 2001 Mustang GT (automatic) convertible and I'm looking to make my first mods..I'm looking at getting some new gears, maybe 4.10s, and some steeda pulleys..will either of these help/hurt my gas mileage?? I'm a daily driver and I want some more performance but I don't want it to affect my gas mileage..any advise on what I should get!?!?

Gears will probably hurt your mileage but by 1-2 mpg while pullies will probably help it. However, if this is your daily driver, I'd stay away from pullies since there's a reason why Ford made the pullies the size they are.

I think it depends on how you drive that mostly determines if your gas mileage will suffer. Gears will be the best mod you do. As for the pullies...I put a set of steeda pullies on my 03 GT vert and quite frankly I didn't really notice much difference. If you have a large stereo system skip this mod.

The alternator's pulley is replaced w/ a different one when you put U/D ones on, therefore slowing down the alternator and reducing it's power output. In addition, same thing goes w/ the water pump. Hence the reason for my comment since as a DD, if your car encounters a lot of rush hour traffic (NY/LA style), the reduced speed on the water pump and AC is not one fun sitting in traffic on a 100° day.

I know others might disagree with me, but I would skip this mod. I never really had any problems, but I would have to turn my A/C way up to just get it to blow somewhat hard, my interior lights seemed to be dimmed when the car was at idle. Anyway, swapping pullies might get you a few ponies, but in my next stang I will not be doing this mod.
