Throttle Body Help
 

I have a 2002 Ford Mustang GT (5 speed) with an AEM CAI. I want to buy a throttle body for it, but obviously AEM does not make one. Will a TB from another manufacturer fit? Besides the throttle body, would I need any other connecter pieces? Thanks for your help!

It doesn't matter. All TBs and CAIs are made to fit w/ any combination of stock parts and TBs have the same dimensions as the stock ones (to an extent). Holley, BBK, FRPP, and Edelbrock all make good pieces.

I went with Dragon brand TB and matching plenum. thats what Modular Powerhouse suggested, they know their Mustangs, so thats what I went with. But I think they are all pretty much the same.

I used a Accufab 70mm. Love it. Unless you got some cam or other type of real mod, don't worry about the plenium. I got a trick flow. Whistles like a tea kettle and the low end sucks.Runs like a banshee at 4500rpm and up.But I drive this car every day , so it doesn't see that kinda action too much. The stock plenium is 70mm anyway.

You might see 3rwhp from a t/b alone.

yeah I know (I don't know if you're saying that like it's a bad thing), but I'm trying to prep my Mustang GT for a supercharger eventually. Exhaust and short shifter are coming next, but I'm disassembling my CAI anyways, so I thought it would be good to add a TB.

If you're getting a blower then get a 75mm.

The stock t/b is 65mm. The plenium however is larger 70mm opening. Aftermarket pleniums have a larger 75mm opening.

poorest quality, fit and finish to be had. Accufab has the best quality, after that they're about all the same. I have a PP 75mm TB and other than it fitting like absolute shit (had to use a hammer and a drill to make it work) it's fine. 75mm is too big for an NA car unless you've made some fairly expensive mods.

I'd do Accufab 70mm and a C&L plenum. At least it actually fits perfectly.

your stock plenum is only 70mm, so the TB opening would be bigger than the plenum opening. To use a 75 you'll need to modify your stock plenum or purchase an aftermarket one (C&L would be my recommendation). It's not a matter of prepping for anything... it's what you have now that matters and losing power in anticipation of gaining it seems kinda odd. If it's not going to help now don't do it now. You don't have enough power for a 75mm TB yet, so don't go there yet. Wait till the blower is on, then do the TB. Wasting 200 bucks now isn't going to get that huffer on any sooner.

I have the PP 75mm TB/Plenum and I must say I prefer the PP over the accufab TB. My buddy runs the accufab and the blade sticks causing light acceleration to be jumpy. The PP is smoothe and does not stick at all. All mounting went in perfect for me too. No modifying whatsoever for any of my peices to work.


Just my experience with them tho. They do tend to have an imperfection or 2 every now and then

so I lose power by putting a larger one on before the blower?

I doubt that. You just wont be getting optimum performance out of it. But it doesnt really make much sense to get a t/b now, whether you get 70 or 75, itll hardly do anything for you power wise. Save the money for now, then when the blower is being installed buy a 75mm and plenum.

Ok.. but I suppose my question is that is it harder to install after the supercharger is in? I'll be getting a twin-screw, so doesn't it sit on top of the actual plenum?

If you want to still do the throttle body, go for the Ford 70mm. They can be picked up off of ebay $30 shipped. Be sure the throttlebody came off of a 5.4l!
You may have to switch the linkage, but still not a problem.
If money is not a problem, shoot for anything "USA" made!!!!!!
