I bought a 2008 Mustang GT this past October. I made no mods to the engine at all. Problem is, is it me, or does this car feel weak at times? I never owed a V8 before, and my last car was a 260hp 2003 Honda Accord V6, and for some reason, the GT feels only slightly more powerful than the Accord. Turning off the traction control doesnt seem to help much. It IS an automatic, but when I punch it, it seems to rev high, but doesnt really go anywhere. I can't even smoke the tires.

I don't own one but have driven a few S197 GT's and even the new Bullitt and they feel quite a bit slower than my car, granted I have some mods done to my car, but still. An automatic also kills about 20% of your power going to the wheels, so for 300bhp, your only pushing 240 to the wheels.

Yep. It's an Auto. :]
Haha but seriously, I drove my buddie's 03 GT Convert. and it's an auto. I really felt like i was getting more power out of my 5 speed v6. Probably not the case, but the v6 was more fun to drive for sure |

its the automatic. swap to a 5spd and you'll feel it.I think an older model 99 to 04 vs a 05+ automatic from a roll the 05 auto will lose.

I think the 05+ auto's are much better than previous years. I can't quite recall the exact info, but when the S197's came out MM&FF compared the auto to the 5 speed and I don't believe there was that much of a difference.
Get a cold air intake and tuner and you'll be happy. If you think there is something wrong with the car then take it to the dealership and tell them you think it's under powered. Maybe the computer mapping is off or something. |
