look around and buy a good used pair

actually you can just buy the cams and the intake, the heads are not really needed... and i have both i can sell you... intake with aluminum crossover and cams out of a 2003 gt.. pm me if interested

don't listen to this guy the heads are needed they have diffrent ports if you use your no pi heads the ports with the intake will not line up,,,,,

joeboy013 03-13-2008 04:32 PM

ok thanks , im gonna do the heads cam and intake, i saw that summit had a kit for all the things needed for about 1200.

joeboy013 03-13-2008 05:29 PM

will i be able to use my valve covers over

SxyXc 03-13-2008 05:31 PM

no you can use the pi intake and non-pi heads, you just get the pi gaskets.. it works just fine... lots of ppl do it... really... the intake will line up and bolt up and everything perfectly..

joeboy013 03-13-2008 06:04 PM

SxyXc 03-13-2008 06:29 PM

It may bolt up but the ports don't line up since they have different shapes. Unless you get adaptor plates or port the NPI heads to be shaped like PI ports, you won't gain anything from just the intake. Just get the PI heads since you'll also gain power from the compression bump.

if it is a daily driven car i would go with some comp 272's or some vt stage 2s crower stage 2 somthing a little mild that will give you pretty good numbers for your money' i of course would go with the crower , but i think a lot of people on this site have the vt's

you actually do get a very nice sotp gain with pi cams and intake. the coolant port mismatch is no big deal if you search and find good tips on the installation. my 96 was non-pi, then pi intake only. there was a noticeable gain above 3000rpm. then i put the pi cams in. still another noticeable gain.
then i had to go back to the non-pi intake because the pi intake failed (unrelated to pi vs non pi issues). definite drop in performance.

so it seems the intake gives you the most and is easiest to do.

cams are a pretty big job but definitely doable. if you get romeo cams with bolt on gears you can probably use the AFM tool which will save a lot of time.

i had pi heads but decided not to use them because i didn't know if my block would need to be machined and i sure didn't want to have to pull the engine for that.

now to intake & cams vs. full swap--i believe the intake/cams gives you most but not all of the gains of the full swap. with the full swap you'll probably be stuck with 91/93 octane. i just traded the 96 for an 04 and the 96 never seemed as strong as the 04 even with the cams/intake so the heads must be good for at least a little (maybe quite a bit) more

anybody want some npi cams/gears pm
